🏈 SEC Scheduling with the arrival of Texas and Oklahoma. Divisions? Pods? How many games?

As far as the early season games. I get it. Move the bulk of them to the evening. With Jerry World/Atlanta/New Orleans....you could have big game openers with those 3 venues (indoors) and then the rest of the SEC play evening games. Places that are less humid (Missouri/Kentucky) could play earlier in the day.

Likely looking at a 3 perm, 6 rotating SEC schedule with 1 single division. I’m OK with that! We’re going to a 12 team playoff and may very well see at LEAST 3 of our teams in it each year!!

You know that the schools don’t pick when the games start. That’s a TV decision. Everybody can’t play at night. There aren’t enough TV slots for all SEC teams (the overwhelming number of which play non-SEC teams in the first few weeks).

With how fast streaming is growing, ESPN needing to expand their ESPN+ offering to make it more viable, and the ABC/ESPN contract the SEC has coming up, this could change quickly. An SEC network streaming service that shows all SEC games live (especially if they can implement split screen) would fix a lot of the issues with time scheduling.

That is how it is going to move over time anyway. It's already going to have to be partly that way with 8-16 games every week across the SEC. Broadcast channels can't handle it that many games for one conference when there may be 70+ games overall playing across the country.

The SEC should set the table with North, South, East and West divisions.. Expanded to a 20 or 24 team league.. a final four.. Then a final SEC champ game…Then go to an 8 team playoff instead of the 12 team crap…

FBS should be going with six 24-team conferences with 4 division each. Bring a few teams up so we can go from 133 to 144 to make it work. That gives you a playoff of 24 teams really, if you include the division and conference. First round is the divisional, second is the conference championship, then you have 8 teams (6 winners and 2 wild cards) for 3 more rounds to determine the overall champ. I mean, in the end the result is going to be money based and not based on rivalries or history so something like this will happen even if we don't like it.

Revenue for the networks is generated by selling advertising time. Ad time price is based on the number of viewers a program has. By moving games to streaming platforms there will be fewer viewers, and as a result less revenue. Right now a Alabama-Vanderbilt game can and will be viewed by people in every market and in bars and restaurants because it’s on. Do you think people in California will be watching Alabama-Vanderbilt if it’s not on their standard list of stations? Do you think people in California will be watching Alabama-Mercer? TV games early in the season are dominated by ranked teams because there isn’t much demand for Vanderbilt-Alabama A&M.

The Sec must play a better out of conference schedule too.. but I think an 8 team NCAA playoff is much better than the 12 team deal.. that would mean 1 and 2 gets a bye week in the NFLesqe one they are planning.. More should be done to settle who the best 8 teams are thru the season.. anyone past number 8 should stay home..
