KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Southeastern Conference referee Anthony Jordan has told the league he didn’t mean to show favoritism toward any particular school when he posed for a picture holding an LSU T-shirt five years ago while traveling abroad.

The photograph circulated on social media among disgruntled Tennessee fans after LSU beat the Volunteers 82-80 on a pair of free throws following a foul call with six-tenths of a second remaining in overtime on Saturday. Jordan was a referee in that game. The loss dropped No. 7 Tennessee into a three-way tie for first place in the SEC with No. 4 Kentucky and No. 13 LSU.

The SEC issued a statement Monday saying the photo was not ā€œacceptable with our expectationsā€ but adding that Jordan ā€œhas a lengthy track record as a fair and impartial basketball official.ā€ Jordan posed for the picture while visiting Spain.

It's my understanding there is no such thing as "SEC basketball officials" but rather "NCAA officials who call SEC games" as well as other conferences.
It makes me wonder why the SEC is commenting on what seems to be a NCAA area.

I was sitting in truck waiting on ms50+....as we all do with our wives...
And was listening to lsu- tn game.... the tn announers were going crazy on the officiating...whine like AU announcers
I wondered....if they were ok with the officials that called the walking call on Bama that was really dubious to say the least...
Honestly.....the whining was unbelievable....loved it....

This really begs the question why any official is "shouting out" to Bama fans and saying Go Tigers?

Remember, Alabama has all the refs paid for largely due to the SEC offices being in Birmingham and that's combined with the friendship Saban has with Emmert and ... šŸ’©šŸ’©šŸ’©šŸ’©

Here is one of the comments from a ut fan. I hope every bit of it is true because of the shafting Bama got up there.

"Average sec official blows their whistle between 22-25 times a game.

The one official blew his 19, the other 23, and Anthony Jordan blew it 44 times.

Jordan’s call difference was 29-15 in favor of LSU.

He called all 5 fouls on Alexander and 3 out of Admirals 4. He called nothing on Mays at the end of the half, with the block on Bone. (Mays would’ve been fouled out early with that) and called the foul on Williams for getting elbowed in the mouth. Good times.

UPDATE: He has now deleted the FB pic! I wonder why?"

So are the refs not allowed to have a favorite team??? I'm lost to why their free time off the court must resemble their time as an official on the clock at work?
I'm sure there is no rule against them having a favorite team. I can't see it as a possiblity they don't. They wouldn't be calling a game they are not a fan of, ya know? It's a lot like expecting your Sportsceter and ESPN personalities not to have a favorite team: Rece with Bama, the late Stuart Scott with UNC basketball, or SVP with Maryland.

However, there's most certainly a clause in their contracts that covers "signs of impropriety." Even if there's a doubt, avoid anything that would draw attention.
