šŸ“” SEC Football Leaving CBS After 2023, Likely For ESPN/ABC

What pisses me the fuck off about the excessive commercials is that they are 65% why most games are over 3 1/2 hours long, yet the powers that be would never dare touch their sacred cash cow.

And what's really stupid is if they did cut down the AMOUNT of commercials and limited to them, they could probably charge a higher premium for the ad time they do use. Combine that with more eyeballs if it was shorter in length, too.

Oh should I qualify that there are literally local ABC affiliates in every market or would you like to be more of an asshole?

The sports arm of ABC is ESPN. If ABC/ESPN get the contract, there's no guarantee that SEC games will be limited to ABC broadcasts. "Only" 14% of all US households receive over the air broadcasts.

I'm not understanding what you're getting at there? SEC games aren't limited to CBS now. If ESPN got the "game of the week" option over CBS (which is what this entire thing is about) you could guarantee that it would go to ABC for the simple fact of wanting to get more eyeballs on it.

If CBS loses the SEC main game, they will have a big hole to fill. Could ABC/ESPN control all SEC games? Will CBS try to get 2nd or 3rd pick? Will Disney put the marquis game on ABC or ESPN and will it be at 3:30 ET or moved to prime time? Will it be a single game each week or a doubleheader each week (for more eyeballs)? There are a lot of ways to package it that would generate more $$ and more eyeballs and block CBS with any competitive offering.

How many broadcast-only households live in the key markets? How many wire-fed households exist in the key markets? What do the ratings say about the viewing habits of connected versus unconnected homes? Does the SEC and Disney lose anything with going ESPN exclusively?
