🏈 SEC Defensive Speed

Curious if anyone thinks about this as I do. We always hear about SEC Speed on the defensive side of the ball...other conferences cant match our overall speed. And this is every year...not just select years. Why is that ??? Nobody can convince me that when a kid comes to an SEC school, they can automatically run faster on defense. Is it because defense is stressed so much in the SEC and the preparation and coaching allows the players to react quicker to plays and formations ??? We always hear about the speed but never hear why it is that way.

I believe it is because the SEC goes after those talent rich states to get their kids. Florida, GA, TX, etc just have so many to choose from. The northern schools play a different style of football and those speedy kids are so often misused that they become discouraged and drop out of football or a southern school looks at that kid and sees the potential for a burner.

It's culture. In the south kids grow up playing FOOTBALL. FOOTBALL FOOTBALL FOOTBALL! If you want a hockey player where are you going to recruit? Soccer? Get me? I often joke with these big XII boys up here..."The SEC where even our white kids are fast." The south breeds football players. Period.

yea i would agree with bamafstback, its just bred down here. we dont grow up playing baseball or basketball or hockey or any of that other crap, its football and 90% of the players in the SEC come from down here.

The speed advantage of the SEC is in the LB and Line play. Everybody has skill players who can run, but big uglies that can run are more prevalent in the SEC.

I think it has a lot to do with the coaches putting them into the right position to make the play. Just because your fast doesn't mean you can play football. You have to have great knowledge of where to be at any given moment.

I feel that is slammed in the players heads in the SEC. However, if you go look into the NFL there is talent from all over the world. Not just the SEC.
