SEC criticized for photoshopping Derrick Henry’s tattoos in Player of the Year tweet

The SEC thought Alabama tailback Derrick Henry was the best offensive player in the conference. It didn’t like his tattoos as much as his 2015 season, however.

The conference was criticized for its cropping of Henry’s image in a tweet announcing the running back had won the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year award on Wednesday, according to 247Sports.com. The photo clearly cropped out Henry’s ink on his arms.

Many players in the SEC and around the country are inked up, which makes this editorial decision a peculiar one. Fans were not afraid to point out the doctored image.

Oddly enough, Alabama athletic director Bill Battle teased athletes with tattoos earlier on Wednesday.
I don't see why this would be done. he came to Bama with these and he will leave with them. So why cover them for the photo?

Here the photo!

Piss poor move on the SEC office's part.

This, coming on the heels of Bill Battle's comments about "tattoos and rims" earlier today at some forum on player compensation and cost if attendance in NY earlier today. Smh.

In case any of you guys missed this from yesterday.

I ran across the discussion a few places yesterday. A lot of the angst from Bama fans seemed to come from those who have been "anti-Battle" since day one.

Alabama AD Bill Battle explains 'frivolous' comments about athletes wasting money on 'tattoos and rims'

"You try to teach student athletes about financial literacy but know you failed when you see them on their new hover board," she said.

Panel leader Michael Smith began the next thought when Battle added "tattoos and rims."

The comment created a stir online after drawing a chuckle from the audience of mostly collegiate sports administrators and vendors.

Battle spoke with AL.com on a number of topics after appearing on the panel.

"It was frivolous statement that was meant to be cute," he said.

Battle went on to explain the origin of his thought.

"That was the Jim Tressel thing I guess," Battle said, referencing the scandal at Ohio State that led to Tressel's resignation in 2011. "The thing that students in general, not just athletes, spend money on is those kinds of things sometimes. That's what we hope to educate our student athletes that those are not wise investments and they ought to be spending their money on those that add to the experience or the collegiate experience."

I would rather see a picture of him with the tats. That's who he is and it shouldn't be hidden. Nobody cares in this day and age about whether you have tats or not. Too many piercings is not my thing but I don't care if you do it. I agree with Jill, ridiculous.

He's not doing drugs. He has no rape allegations. He has not had issues with drinking. He was not involved in any academic or money scandals. He has not been involved in crime, suspensions, trouble, issues of any sort (that we know of).

So we are OK with flashy photos of rapists and alcoholics and criminals winning trophies and awards for "integrity" but (*GASP*) tattoos .. ! NOT TATTOOS!!!

Lordy lordy hide the children and censor those pictures immediately before our poor, innocent eyeballs have to gaze upon such inky offensiveness!

Battle's shot at Tressel and tOSU, while cute, totally missed A LOT of people. Maybe the only ones that caught it and understood are on this board or your name is Cecil Hurt. He is about the only media member that I know that can either make a dig or catch one that is put out there. Everyone else seems to get their panties in a bunch.

Now I thought it was silly of the SEC to photoshop the tats. I don't have any issue with anyone that has a tattoo or wants them. I do know that in certain circles, they are frowned upon and will lead to no step up in the business world. As far as investments go, kids don't look at it their money that way. They never have and they never will.
