The further removed we get from the Butch Jones era at Tennessee, the more negatively it seems to be viewed by fans an analysts. Apparently that goes for one of Jones’ former SEC coaching peers, as well.

In Lindy’s 2018 SEC preview, an anonymous coach from college football’s most powerful conference was asked for his thoughts on Tennessee and the type of shape the Vols are in heading into the season. The coach unloaded on Jones for the job he did.

The same coach said Jeremy Pruitt will have to change the culture at Tennessee, but he believes the position Jones has left him in will make that difficult to do immediately.

Jones was fired last season following an embarrassing 50-17 loss to Missouri, which dropped Tennessee’s record to 4-6 on the season at the time. He finished with an overall record of 34-27 with the school and won three bowl games, but the Vols were just 14-24 in SEC play under Jones.

If Jones wants to begin rebuilding his resume, he has landed in a great spot to do just that.

Anonymous coach = master of the obvious.

I read this and see nothing worthy of being posted in the magazine. Every new HC has to get rid of not-very-good players, get in the horses that can produce, etc.

Just my opinion, but it's a complete waste of space in the magazine.

What a brave anonymous coach........wouldn't you like to know what that coach's W-L record is over his career in football.
I've always carried serious doubts these quotes from coaches are from head coaches but from assistants, S&C guys, etc.

or Pruitt himself...
More like a move we'd see out of a guy like Tim Horton: his ilk, ya know? I'd go with a coach from the Eastern Division first of all and then move off of the HC's.

Athalon/Lindy's ... there's a call I just don't see a head coach answering.

Athlon is still pretty respected in college football. They have exclusive interviews with most of the bigger coaches every year.

It's been hinted at and mentioned sort have, but this is the first I've seen that put it on the line. Everybody knows that Tennessee had talent but they did nothing with it. It's a rebuilding job. It will be interesting to see if they have the patience for Pruitt.

My thoughts too! I’ve alwags thought ā€œanonymousā€ actually means ā€œI don’t have the balls to put my name on it, so I’ll just talk shitā€

Remember first and foremost who now is calling the shots at UT....The Phat-one himself....
Go way out and make a prediction......In Pruitts second year...there will be a bad lost....Fulmer will fire Pruitt and install himself in the job...which he has wanted since beingfired in 2008.... he is ruthless and vicious......
Pruitt is on shaky ground at UT....and there is no waiting 3-4 years for improvements... this is going on a decade of embarrassment.....
If he gets through year 2 it will be a miracle

JMO but JP is in a pretty good spot. Yes 10RC might be down as far as talent but the Fanbase has to know that already. This 1st year should show whether he is a good coach because those coaches can elevate players to play at a higher level. He is making millions and has selected a talented group of assistant coaches(it appears). Getting recruiting headed back into the top 15 is a must. 7 and 5 might be the best he can do in 2018. It would really be helpful if he can beat somebody that is someone in 2018....just as long as it isn't Bama. We need 10RC and UF to get going and challenge Kirby for the Dawgs are on cruise control in the East. As Coach Bryant used to say on his Sunday show when a player broke away for a long run/pass..."Charlie my boy it looked like he was out to practice early".....that is the way UGA has it in the East as of today.

Never ever would pull for UT..even with JP there...period...
Their saving grace is...being in the historic weak east...ky, Missouri, vandy, USCe
Florida will jump..UGA is there....... so getting to middle won’t be that hard....
And Bama as evryyear opponent is tough..
And top 15 recruiting will still leave them 3-6 teams behind of teams they play..in sec...
And they are a mess ....and loving it...
