I saw JJ's touchdown catch at Saturday's scrimmage and all I can say is WOW!

JP threw the ball 35 yards WHILE rolling to his right. Julio had the coverage behind him and pretty much caught it in stride. As RJ chases JJ down, JJ lays a stiff arm to make RJ fall but RJ got just enough of his shoe for him to be tackled in the end zone. It was an unbelievable play! It ended up being a 72 yd TD pass.

In regards to the sacks. The QB's are wearing black and are not to get hit. More or less just wrapped up. Now with the QB's knowing that I wonder how many of the sacks were them just stoping instead of really trying to elude the sack.

That's true. There were alot of sacks in the A-Day game that could've really been nothing if they actually GOT to sack the QB. Since all the defense has to do is touch the QB, it makes you wonder how the Qbs can REALLY scramble away from the defender. So I don't really consider tag football with the QB a sack. As well as JPW can scramble, you could probably cut the sack numbers in half.

I think the sack total was compounded by several things...the Blitz packages, the QB black shirts, etc.
We should fix that when the QBs are running for their lives....

I agree it should be fixed. I just hope you know what I'm saying. When the D touches the black jersey QB, it's a sack. But it just makes me wonder how many of those could the QB have gotten out of if it was a real game. That's all I'm saying. But I know where you're going with fixing the Qb getting rushed.

I agree wholeheartedly on the analysis of the QB's being touched rather than actually sacked.

In a "Controlled" scrimmage, the coaching staff instructs the pass rushers to do their best to get at least a hand, or better yet, two on the QB.

The high number would explain this as to not point blame at a weak OL.

And of course, the flip side is a QB is most free to stand in the pocket with a greater sense of comfort and security knowing that he will not be hit by an on-rushing defender - merely 'tagged.'

That security and freedom allows him to be more calm and patient and possibly complete a few more passes than otherwise.

All part of the yin and yang of the scrimmage rule.
