TUSCALOOSA ā Alabamaās 2012 football team hit the practice field for the first time Friday afternoon. The 2011 national championship team did not.
Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban drove that point home in a team meeting before the two-hour workout in shorts and helmets.
āI think itās really important that we, as a team, understand that this is not the team that won the national championship,ā Saban told reporters after the workout. āItās very, very important that this team dedicates itself and commits itself to creating an identity of its own. ā¦
āI hope this team is challenged and hungry in terms of what they want to accomplish and what they want to do. It seemed like there was enough of a combination of youth and experience that that was the case out there today.ā
As powerful as the 2009 and 2011 national titles are to the teamās most experienced players, the 2010 season is just as motivating, rising senior inside linebacker Nico Johnson said.
