If the SEC didn't have Saban, would Urban Meyer be the next version of Spurrier?.....Remember when Spurrier was new to the SEC and brought in this new advanced offense that no one knew how to deal with? He then went and got Bob Stoops to run the defense and eventually built a machine that won the NC and made everyone fear Florida..........Saban evetually came to LSU and took over the reigns from Florida.

It's no wonder Urban both fears and dreads Saban, he is the only thing standing betwen him and legendary status.

At this time, Urban's shadow of prestige is probably slightly bigger than Saban's, but that is changing fast and Urban knows it. He may want to move to another conference where is is the only undisputed big dog on the block. Once Saban gets firmly established, Urban may win some games in the season, but Saban will be his demise every year in the SEC championship game. :fight::a:

Given time...Monte Kiffin will have the TN defense in good shape IMO....Ole man Monte knows his defense....well enuff to play Florida IMO. Urban has had the corner on recruiting and he is a very good coach....SEC Championships and National Championships dont come easy...him..his staff and players have worked extremely hard to maintain the level of play to stay at the top.

Without a doubt. 100% correct.

Sometimes it staggers me how fans think that if you just have the right coach and right players that a National Title is a guarantee. There are ALLOT of good players, coaches and teams out there. You have to BEAT the other teams, not just have good players and good coaches. Yeah, they help, but it takes luck and hard work and a myriad of other things.

and in floridas case the right officiating crew

While I think Monte is one heck of a coach....he is 69. He will be 70 in February. He hasn't got many good years left. Being a coordinator requires being hands on. He get down and starts showing technique he might break a hip or something.

I say that in jest, but personally I don't see them turning things around fast enough to suit the orange faithful. I could be wrong, and they seem to be recruiting fairly well, but only time will tell. I think it takes more than 2-3 years to get them back to winning 10 games a year. If that is the case I look for the natives to get restless.

Hence why UF is trying to buy games (see Arky game).

And if/when CNS does kick Meyer off the proverbial throne...Urban will jet for Notre Dame.

I have posted this before and still need to know. What has CUM done other than be at the right place at the right time? Recruited TT? He was going to FU anyway. I just don't see anything showing me that he has rebuilt a program.

ya he wasnt very good at Bowling Green, Utah or Florida:rofl:

But did he not mostly inherit these programs and build on? Sure CNS inherited good players but he had to change attitudes, instill discipline and put in many of his own recruits to make the program what it is today. I am not saying that he isn't a good coach I just thought that I would give my 2 cents if we were comparing the 2.
