Why is there any question about why the fans are "disappointed"?

Saban trained the fans. "Don't focus on outcomes, focus on details; focus on how you do things; focus on doing things the right way. Do things the right way and the outcomes will be what you want. Don't and they won't"

And, you can't figure out why fans are disappointed? We listened to Saban and we believed what he said.

We ignored the outcome and we focused on "how" the offense blocked or more accurately, didn't block...

Forget communications. This was an issue of terrible technique (nobody even remotely looked like they could play SEC let alone the next level...including, and maybe especially Cyrus...pitiful)

But, the biggest frustration was they stood there flat footed and didn't even wave as the VT defenders came by. Didn't block ANYBODY...forget the right man...hit SOMEBODY...that goes for the entire offensive line and the blocking backs....all of them.

Can you fix this in two weeks? I don't think so... By LSU? I hope so...this is a little late for learning technique and developing a high motor...

Alabama fans are more sophisticated than just scoreboard watchers. They understand the game.

I don't believe you understand what's meant by communication. A lot of this communication is instinctual—knowing how a player beside you is going to block a rushing end. Steen's had to deal with two players whose footwork and blocking were different in Arie and Austin. There was an adjustment there because he had to learn to communicate with both.

There's a reason words like trust and teamwork have been used along with communication—a lot of moving parts to accomplish a single goal here, remember?
 
I understand communication..I don't understand standing still and flagging at defenders...I don't understand not using good footwork...not at this level...not at this point in the season

Several analysts have broken it down...Mark May did a slow motion on Austin Shepherds footwork...picking up his feet and guessing an outside rush and whiffing as the defender went inside and made a sack...another picked out Cyrus on four plays where he whiffed, held or chased and questioned the first round NFL hype

Watch the film...use the pause and rewind buttons...focus on Cyrus, Ari, Austin, C. J. Yeldon and Fowler...lost and amazed

Watch with someone who actually played OL
 
If it wasn't for the defense and special teams there is no telling where this game would have gone. If Christion Jones didn't bust out the game would have been lost. The game wasn't played that badly? Two offensive touchdowns from "the most explosive offense in the Saban era"? I'm happy the rest of the team came ready to play, but I stood there in the stadium and watched our offensive line get dominated. Arguably the best running back in the country gained like 80 yards with no running lanes, and the most accomplished quarterback in the country couldn't even settle his feet to throw, hence his sub par stats.

Now, it was the first game breaking in a new line, so I am optimistic that coach didn't trot the scout team caliber player out there and that it can only go up from here. But to say the game was played "not that badly" is not the players need to hear. You think Saban or anyone on the team is saying that? Anthony Steen sure doesn't think that.
 
We're doomed. Just like we were least season after WKU made our OL look silly, including DJ Fluker. 6 sacks and 8 TFL against the best O-Line we've ever had. I've stayed out of these topics because I find them irritating. It's like something you'd hear on Finebaum. So maybe that has already been pointed out, I don't know. Point is, it's football... adjustments are made.
 
What Porter says... To say the game would have been lost without the great special teams play is pure supposition. Moving the ball was difficult but the play calling changes when you're in the lead. I thought the offense play calling was "vanilla" on purpose. VTs defense was clever with some unexpected looks. I'm sure if the game was more contentious, they would have used max protection or moved the pocket (ala LSU championship game) They're obviously disappointed that the offensive line got whipped with individual blocking schemes which I'm sure is being addressed. Remain calm the sky is not falling!

I simply said that to show that the game would have been a lot closer had there not been a breakout performance. Simply look at all the awards and recognition Jones got for his performance, mainly in special teams. When was the last time Alabama or any team had a special teams outing like that? You're right, it is a phase of the game, but not even the most sound special teams score like that. I can promise you there will probably not have another performance like this, so don't count on it every week to bail out the offense, which in turn cause "vanilla" play calling as said earlier.

I never said the sky was falling, just stating it was crappy sitting there watching our offense not do anything at all, especially when you see all of the playmakers we have. I just didn't expect it is all, and I'm a realist that isn't expecting 50 point victories every week, but expected more offensive production. Defense and special teams was lights out, so credit to them.
 
But at some point when do we stop beating a dead horse and move on? You didn't say a single thing that literally all of us have said right there already. Everyone acknowledges the offense sucked in general and they are working to correct it. The question is can they? And we will find out the answer to that next Saturday but I and alot of others feel the answer is yes.

i wasn't responding to you in the first place, I was commenting based on the opening post. I don't think forum rules only allow you to respond to the last post of that thread. I initiated a conversation with you in reference to your comment towards me.

i agree with you and others that next weekend will show a different line, but it was not fun watching the offense against Virginia Tech. I'm not all doom and gloom, once again just stated it was a sub par performance that I never expected from a Nick Saban opening game team.
 
I didnt say you responded to anyone... like you said there are no forum rules on responses and last time I checked I or anyone else could respond to anything anyone else says...

That means you were critiquing the first comment of mine stating I shouldn't have said what I said since it was nothing that had already been said. You have the right to respond to anyone, I have no problem with that. My issue came when you made the comment above, when I never directed it at you in the first place, but simply stated my opinion towards the first post, just like you and a lot of others did.
