šŸˆ Saban to Cleveland rumors

I know, I know we get the rumors every year but still this one is the main one thats getting tossed around right now...

Nick Saban to the Cleveland Browns just used to be a rumor every other team in the SEC would dream upon, but it’s starting to look like it could conceivably happen.
The organization parted ways with former general manager Mike Holmgren after Tennessee booster Jimmy Haslam purchased the team.
Now, according to a report from the Boston Globe, Haslam may hire NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi as the next GM. Lombardi and Saban worked together in Cleveland in the 90s when Saban was the defensive coordinator and Lombardi was the Director of Player Personnel, and the report stated that Saban made it known about his possible return to the NFL.
According to the NFL sources, Saban has let it be known that if he returns to the NFL — where he flopped, going 15-17 with the Dolphins from 2005-06 — it would likely be with Lombardi playing Pioli to his Belichick.
Nick’s wife Terry strongly denied her husband’s interest in returning to the NFL last week.
ā€œTo answer your question and get right to the point, no,ā€ she said. ā€œWe’re very comfortable here. We love it here. It’s a great fit for our family. It’s a good fit for me. As far as we’re concerned, this is where we’ll retire someday.
ā€œAs far as jobs go, this is it for us. I don’t mean to be presumptuous. I would have to talk this over with Nick, but as far as I’m concerned, this is it.ā€
Saban has already reached the pinnacle of success in the college game. Another Championship – his 3rd in 4 years – would be icing on the cake.
While Alabama fans like to believe Saban will stay in Tuscaloosa forever, the reality is that coaching Alabama is a job for Saban. Coaches are not driven by an emotional attachment to a school like fans often think. Guys like Saban, who are smart and work hard to be the best at what they do, often look to the next challenge. It wouldn’t be shocking to see Saban look to another challenge.
Regardless of Saban’s coaching future, he’s not going to coach at Alabama forever. The best answer for fans is to simply enjoy the run while it lasts.

I would really hate to have a job where everyone is always trying to figure out what you are going to do. If a coach or a family member says that they are happy where they are and have no intentions of going anywhere, someone is always ready to suspect that they are lying. The barners would love for him to go and they also love to needle the sh*t out of Alabama fans to the point of believing it too.

If he went .. who would be HC? I don't know, but I see Saban staying at UA for a while. Maybe not forever, but for at least a few more years. I don't think he will be done there until he wins a few more championships

It would be cool to see him with Trent, though. And if anyone could coach the long-suffering Browns to success it would be CNS.

Funny enough the person that I saw post the article was a Barner *dead*

I honestly think Kirby is going to be the HC when Saban retires from Alabama.

Our opponents want SO DESPERATELY for CNS to leave that they can't stand it! So what do they do? Come up with every possible way for Saban to be linked to someone that knows someone that taught Sunday school to someones' nephew that knows Saban will go to this or that job. IMHO, I don't see CNS leaving Bama to go to Cleveland.I don't see him going back to the NFL period. I could honestly see him staying at Bama another 4-5 years and then retiring with a few more Crystal Balls to his credit.

i`m a browns fan and i dont see CNS walk into this trainwreck of a franchise. even with the new ownership situation, obviously Haslam as a UT booster sees the success Saban has and wants to turn this franchise around quickly. i dont see Banner giving up enough control. Why in the world would he go to Cleveland , yes i know his history there. there are going to be many job openings in the nfl , as many as 7 or so by the end of the season. its not gonna happen

I have only one word about the Terry Saban's interview and the uproar it caused: Scarbinsky

He invited her on that radio show to supposedly to talk about the Nick's Kids project she was working on and then they started blindsiding her with questions about their future...

People are also twisting her words. Skip Bayless & Stephen A. Smith spent time this week telling everyone how Terry Saban confirmed that Saban doesnt enjoy coaching anymore (NOT what she said), and also everyone just completely skips over the pretty big part of her saying this is their final stop in terms of coaching jobs and they plan to retire at Bama.

At this present time, the biggest names in coaching would want to lick their chops and sing Rammer Jammer, I aint worried one bit. If Coach Saban decides to call it a day at Bama, I will be the one thanking him for his effort and what he has done. I am not in the least bit worried.

Thank you! It kills me how everybody passed around this headline and used it to fuel NFL rumors, while completely ignoring the fact that she said in the most flat-out way possible that they are NOT going anywhere. Jeez, he's not a pro football coach and he has no vertical mobility in college (not upward, anyway), end of story. He's the highest paid coach and a freakin god in this state. He will retire here, like his wife said.. I just hope it's later rather than sooner, but either way, his legacy is cemented.

Two unrelated stories. But, they are being mixed together.

The Cleveland story started in the Boston Globe.
It was these two paragraphs that set it off.
There’s also the person Lombardi could deliver as head coach: Alabama’s Nick Saban.

According to the NFL sources, Saban has let it be known that if he returns to the NFL — where he flopped, going 15-17 with the Dolphins from 2005-06 — it would likely be with Lombardi playing Pioli to his Belichick.

ESPNCleveland picked up the story and published it a day or two ago.
This time they cited four major news outlets have reported "...." The problem with that article out of Cleveland was all four outlets were re-publishing the original story out of the Boston Globe.

And all of this happened after Cleveland was thrown into a frenzy by a report in the Boston Globe that speculated on Nick Saban and Mike Lombardi teaming up as CEO Joe Banner’s dream team to replace Shurmur and GM Tom Heckert. It marked the fourth different national media outlet to link the smooth-talking Lombardi to the Browns. The twist Sunday morning was having Lombardi somehow being the deal-maker to persuade Saban to leave Alabama.

ā€œLet me tell you something,ā€ said a league source with knowledge of both men. ā€œNick Saban wouldn’t work with Mike Lombardi in a thousand years.ā€

It's grown from there.

With the radio show, that was a question about how happy Saban was at his job. She mentioned that he isn't as happy with a win now as he used to be, it's more of a relief and then it's on to the next game.

That statement was taken, then used to say "Is Saban happy coaching at Alabama." Of course there's the bit in the interview mentioning last stop, retirement, etc.

They are actually two related stories exacerbated by the questions asked by Scarbinsky and company and answered by an honest but an unsuspecting Terry Saban concerning Alabama and Nick Saban. Her interview with "The Zone" was a topic on ESPN's "First Take" today where her answers were twisted to make it sound as though the Sabans are not happy in Tuscaloosa and that winning at Alabama has become "not fun".

About 1 hour in: http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=8736557

My point was that Mrs Saban was blindsided by Scarbinsky by having her on the show to talk about a Nick's Kids project knowing all along that they were planning to hit her with questions about Coach Saban's future at Alabama.

I personally think it was a dirty trick to lure Terry Saban on the show with the pretense of helping Nick's Kids when they intended to blindside her with questions about her husband.
