  • Grey-shirt are Orr, McKeller and Williams.
  • Cody has improved, but he still isn't a 3rd down NG at this point—if we played today.

My quick math (and my slow math isn't that good) is we are at 86 IF Sentimore qualifies...which is the main reason he said the 105 is subject to change depending on the Clearinghouse.

So three grayshirts could affect our recruiting math for the rest of the year. Although it looks like the grayshirt issue is more over the 85 issue than the 25 issue. Looks quite possible that a couple of these guys could "back count" into this year's class if needed.

Which class did Warmack and Carpenter count towards?

I don't remember for sure, but in December I thought we back counted Murphy and Preyear and had to count Warmack and Carpenter for 2009.

Just a quick update:

As USN92 mentioned, Petey Smith will gray-shirt, but as of now he'll be the third gray-shirt.

Kellen Williams, who will be in school this fall, is probably going to be on scholarship. The question remains if he'll qualify for a medical redshirt or not—some have speculated he will.

Just thinking about it, you think Saban's talk of Cody not being on the field for third downs could be a little motivation tactic? Or is that really the case?

With Saban, I've found it is important to pay attention—close attention—to what he says in his pressers.

On Cody, he said if we were to play today he wouldn't be the guy on third down.

Today.

Sure, he gets reports on how Cody has done over the summer. But, he went on to say that they have goals for Cody that he hasn't quite reached yet.

I took it as he was close, but still has something to prove. I'd call it motivation...he's used his press conferences to get messages across to the team quite a bit in the past.

To add one thought on this off the path a bit...

We know they've been trying different line-ups on the DL for third down passing situations...and, neither Cody or Chapman were the guys on that line.
