🏈 Ryen Russillo gets it: Bama losses due to ...

Which is all fine and dandy and largely accurate (see: Ole Miss 2015). But all the same, 12 turnovers in 5 games is pretty troubling.

We are #99 (out of 128) in terms of passes intercepted, #73 in fumbles lost, and #72 in team turnover margin per game. For a team that is ranked where we are, that is surprising and worrisome. I am hoping we continue to see progress. (College Football Stats - College FB Team Turnover Margin per Game on TeamRankings.com)

Not to mention that how we perform against spread vs. pro-style offenses in terms of yards/points given up is interesting/troubling. It seems like we still just can't figure them out.

Also, are we even kicking at 50% in terms of FGs right now? Pitiful. Kickers better get their shit together if we want any chance at a title run. Games are so easily won or lost on turnovers or FGs/XPs .. and with high scoring offenses all over, you have to be able to keep up/outscore.

I get what everyone is saying and it's all true, but no team can be near perfect year in and year out no matter how much you reload. History has shown us that there is a slow down and the learning curve has to catch up. We all just have to be a little more patient. And that, my friends, is the pot calling the kettle black.

I wonder how many points we lost by in those games? I know no one is perfect, so it wouldn'the be accurate, but that's 36 points in missed field goals alone.

The last 3 years, we've had 6 L's, and in those games we've been -13 in TO margin, and 50% on FG's.

2015 - Ole Miss, 6 points, -5 TO margin, 1/1 FG
2014 - Ohio State, 7 points, -1 TO margin, 0/0 FG
2014 - Ole Miss, 6 points, -1 TO margin, 1/3 FG
2013 - Oklahoma, 14 points, -4 TO margin, 1/2 FG
2013 - Auburn, 6 points, +1 TO margin, 0/4 FG
2012 - Texas A&M, 5 points, -3 TO margin, 1/1 FG

Two things of note from those graphs:

One: Notice the highlighted winning percentage of .831.
Two: Lowest ranked team in all 10 losses sits at #19/20 at the time of the game and only three of the games Bama lost featured opponents NOT ranked in the top 10 at the end of the year.

Clearly in the losses 2012 forward, three of the six were altogether on account of turnovers - OM 2015, Okla 2013 and Aggies 2012. That 0-1 for FG in the 2013 barn game can't be right. Griffin was 0-1, but Foster missed several.
