🏈 Rumor Mill...

SLO - Just 2 weeks ago DC was supposedly ahead of everyone until he free'd Willie. A lot can change in a year, including and likely the OC. DC obviously isn't that far off as a QB.

Morris clearly wasn't "Nuss' guy", he stuck it out, and it appears the newest OC values him more.

In all seriousness - Do you really see this year being a big deal for Barnett (or Cornwell) anyway? I hope it is, but Saban's history and some conflicting reports have other guys getting the snaps.

I don't think Cornwell's problem lies with whether he is Kiffin's boy or not. If he did what has been said, his problem is with CNS ever trusting him to be a mature leader for this team. Every Saban QB has been held to staunch leadership standards and maturity is very high on that list. Sure he could stay and walk the straight and narrow and try and prove that this was an anomaly but how long does that take? Another year? 2 years? I think he will take the path of least resistance and start over somewhere else.

Agree on all that. I think he's likely gone

SLO...I need you to know this...for my own healing.

Most of the time I absolutely CANNOT stand you. However...you do have this weird redeeming quality where you just completely forget about what people have said about you in the past and talk just like you are best buds.

He's already used a redshirt year so he just loses another year (he'll still have three years left).

TF doesn't have to source a rumor. There's no copyright protection on rumors.

Exactly! I posted it there just to see if they would delete it. And edited it to let them know it was taken from another board.

Look, man. Outside looking in, your points make sense. And on the surface, I agree that it should not matter next year because Kiffin may very well be gone to a HC job somewhere. But, it matters to DC, a 20 year old kid.

Therefore, none of what you state has anything to do with DC's current feelings about BB and Kiffin (voiced by his own commentary last week). It's those feelings he has that caused a DGAF attitude, which led to him making decisions that put him in the dog house, and are playing a large part in his decision to transfer.

No, but you're still splitting them while saying you're not.

Question. You do acknowledge that we heard from multiple sources that Cornwell stated he's not "Kiffin's boy", right?

Cornwell felt he had a legitimate shot at starting THIS year. And all indications from the end of spring ball thru summer workouts pointed in that direction. But, no one, including DC, expected BB to make such headway in fall camp with the staff, AND with the team.

Two more questions: Kiffin recruited BB from the left coast, right? And Kiffin is still here this year, right?

If your answers to the 3 questions above are all " yes", then I don't see your point in the possibility of Kiffin being here next year.

Kiffin recruited BB, and DC has been passed on the depth chart by "Kiffin's boy".

The fact that I made reference to " Kiffin's Boy" as one event in a series of events that progressed to where we are today as it relates to DC doesn't change the fact that DC felt that way last week, and started the slippery slope of negative occurrences that have led him to the brink of possibly transferring.

I agree. I think y'all are jumping the gun saying Kiffin is gone after this year. All Lane has proven is that he is a damn fine QB coach and a very good OC most of the time. He still hasn't proven he can handle the boss chair. I think it's likely he sticks around here a little longer. He's young, he's got a good job making good money in a football obsessed town where he isn't THE guy taking all the credit or the blame while he pads his resume. You could do a lot worse while you waited for the right job to come open. He can be selective. No reason to leave for the first Western Montana A&T job that comes open.

David Cornwell is at practice today.
As I stated in the Team Update thread, good for him.

But, he could be giving one last ditch effort today before throwing in the towel and withdrawing before midnight today.

A bit of a reach, I know... But, these rumors had more than legs for a reason. Maybe he came to his senses. Maybe his parents talked him down.

All I know is that as of noon today, he was gone.

Kiffin will be given opportunities to leave after this year. But, he is learning so much from CNS that he may stick around to learn more. The last year has taught him so much about what he didn't know but he thought he knew. It will also depend on who makes an offer. He won't leave for Arkansas State but could leave if it was LSU(-like).

I agree that Kiffen probably won't jump just to get another HC job.......but I don't think he will end up as HC in the SEC again. He is a west coast guy and I would expect him to head that direction. On local radio there was scuttle butt that Miami has given Al Golden all the time they are going to give him. If he doesn't produce this year that the groaning will get louder. While Miami couldn't get much further geographically from the west coast.........from a mindset standpoint, they are very similar.

I said all that to say this. I think if the right job comes open, he will take it. I don't think the right job is anywhere in the SEC.

I think Kiffin hangs around at least until after the '16 season. I think the reason is two fold. 1)Continue to repair your reputation and learn from the best HC in the game and 2) rape the USC defense and Pat Hayden to the tune of half a hundred or so! Then he can meet Hayden in the parking lot and bitch slap for a little icing on the cake.
