Over the course of history, 'Bama has caused many changes to be made to the game of college football.

Some of the most famous were rules being made to prevent Coach Bryant from doing what he did, which was find ways to win. People didn't like that.

History has already repeated itself. Coach Saban has changed the rules of college football because he recruited too well. People didn't like that.

Let me tell you something else people don't like; they don't like 'Bama being in the driver's seat of the BCS showdown.

Rumblings are emanating from all corners of the college football world. From Pete Carroll out in CalEFornie to Urban Meyer down in sunny Florida, it just isn't fair that their teams are being left out.

They are playing the best football, bar none, say the doubters of 'Bama and Texas Tech and Penn State.

How can any of these teams honestly and fairly be given a shot to play for the NC when Florida and USC are the best teams, etc... Don't mention the losses they both have, that is inconsequential.

The whining has already begun. The crybabies are out in full force.

Barrack Obama even made his argument for an 8 system playoff on this last NFL Monday Night game broadcast.

Seems that Alabama is still a catalyst for change, we make things happen.

If 'Bama manages to win the BCS NC game, it very well may be the death knell for the BCS. Wouldn't that be a kick? I wouldn't care, as long as we get to add one more NC.

Carroll is mad because they beat some team that hasn't won a game all year by a score of something like 300-0 and dropped in the polls.

Meyer is upset because, well, just because he is always crying about something or the other.

Penn State is pissed because they play in a totally sucky conference and got jumped by a Texas Tech team that actually plays credible opponents.

Everyone seems angry. LOL. I am not angry; how about you?

Other than after a season when we have a lone undefeated champion, when have there not been anger over the BCS system?

Whining has become an implied part of the system. We know that once you lose one, you have to jockey in the press to position yourself to be listed and the Best of the Rest, so that you can get back up - hopefully. We see this same element at work with people scheduling tough games early so that they have the time to whine and climb back up by season's end.

GREAT! ^^sar Lets continue down that road where the Washington has to be called in to do the right thing. What's next, "Ooh, this play will be reviewed. So we now cut away to Congress where Holly is standing by with the House play review Committee."

OSU plays in the same conference and added USC as a routine...and was rewarded for playing as well as PSU is right now. CRY ME A HANDFUL HAPPY VALLEY!

Whether we stay with the BCS (which I dislike) or go to some form of a playoff, I don't want politicians involved in it in any fashion.

The ironic thing in all of this is the Big Ten Commissioner is one of the biggest opponents of a playoff system and a conference championship game.

What do you think Penn State fans think of him about now?! Wake up Big Ten and Pac 10. You don't want a championship game, yet you want the attention and glory of those that do...doesn't work that way!

And USC back in the mix and whining with the best of 'em???? Ummm, has everyone just written off them not showing up vs. Oregon State and getting embarassed on national TV?! This wasn't a one-point loss in the last minute or a freak TD at the end, etc.... I really can't believe the talk this week on my local sports talk radio. I guess at least it beats UGA media/fans buying up SECCG tickets and making reservations in Miami before playing Florida. Maybe that's why they didn't show up.

In all honesty, I'd like to see a 8 team playoff taking the 6 BCS conference champs and then select 2 at large teams. Don't do away with the bowls. Bowls would be for those that don't qualify into the playoff.

I'm not carried away with the idea of automatically putting in the conference champs. I don't care who emerges from the ACC or Big East, they are not national championship material this year, nor are they most years. Utah or Boise State would have a stronger claim. Runners up in the SEC and Big 12 are clearly better than the Big East or ACC winners. I'd take the 8 highest ranked teams, by whatever formula.
There might be some screams, but if you take 8 you should catch all of those with a legitimate shot at the NC.

Next, I'd take the six biggest bowls (Rose, Cotton, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Citrus) and use them for the tournament, with four of them hosting the first round games and two the semi=finals. The NC game would be in a suitable site, rotated annually.

Even if we had a playoff, you would still have the crybabys...someone will be left out regardless of the system that is in place. I would rather see a playoff system, but I don't see how we can call it "fair" unless you put in more teams. The top 8 or top 10...there will be a #9 or #11 screaming that they should be included also. The polls are so screwy, it's tough to leave it up to them.

I don't like the BCS because it leaves out the #3 and possibly 4th team that could be undefeated or better than the first two. I think 8 teams is being way too generious, four is plenty and if you are #5 looking in so beit.

On a second note, Pete Carroll should be ashamed of making any comments on a playoff. The current system and his conference guarantees him a free ticket to the show. It's not the BCS's fault that he can't get his team ready to play Oregon State.

Keep all the bowls and make them playoff rounds. That's right folks, sixteen teams, and it will make a gajillion dollars for the schools and the NCAA. Start the rounds in December when school is generally out anyway. Finish in early January when the bowls are played anyway. If your favorite school is number 17, well, you don't have much to cry about anyway do you. Rotate the final rounds between the BCS bowls and they get the best games once again.

"Okay," you say to yourself hand on chin and eyes far off in the distance eyeing a hazy, dreamlike image of college football utopia, "but there are more bowls than that." If you can find enough teams with records over .500 and you want to pay them to come play, have at it.

NCAA, feel free to use this. You may begin next year.
