If I've seen this come up once I've seen it come up a dozen times: and a dozen is being very stingy.
If you've followed this story about the possibility of Jacob Coker transferring to Bama you've probably seen people ask "if he can." Or perhaps, "how can he?"
A lot of these questions are coming from a rule the SEC passed a few years ago eliminating the "one and done" possibility for kids who have graduated and still have eligibility remaining.
Jacob Coker doesn't fall into this category. Since he has two years of eligibility left he'll be allowed to transfer to an SEC school. The actual rule can be found here, under 14.1.15 in the SEC Rules Handbook.
In layman's terms it's not much different than what qualifies a JUCO kid. There are several requirements but one of the important ones here is also a two year contingent. They must have graduated their JUCO program in two and they must have two years left.
FWIW, I've no clue whether Coker is planning on transferring. I know we're not recruiting him. We can't since he's still a player on the FSU squad. How his situation would work out is something I've not looked into; at least not deeply.
(IE: The BCSNC game is the 6th. Classes begin at UA on the 8th. Late registration is the 7th. Can he play, or travel, with FSU and still be able to transfer, register, and start classes within a matter of three days? It would take an exception...to put it mildly.)
I hope this clarifies his situation a bit. If not, shoot away...
