If I've seen this come up once I've seen it come up a dozen times: and a dozen is being very stingy.

If you've followed this story about the possibility of Jacob Coker transferring to Bama you've probably seen people ask "if he can." Or perhaps, "how can he?"

A lot of these questions are coming from a rule the SEC passed a few years ago eliminating the "one and done" possibility for kids who have graduated and still have eligibility remaining.

Jacob Coker doesn't fall into this category. Since he has two years of eligibility left he'll be allowed to transfer to an SEC school. The actual rule can be found here, under 14.1.15 in the SEC Rules Handbook.

In layman's terms it's not much different than what qualifies a JUCO kid. There are several requirements but one of the important ones here is also a two year contingent. They must have graduated their JUCO program in two and they must have two years left.

FWIW, I've no clue whether Coker is planning on transferring. I know we're not recruiting him. We can't since he's still a player on the FSU squad. How his situation would work out is something I've not looked into; at least not deeply.

(IE: The BCSNC game is the 6th. Classes begin at UA on the 8th. Late registration is the 7th. Can he play, or travel, with FSU and still be able to transfer, register, and start classes within a matter of three days? It would take an exception...to put it mildly.)

I hope this clarifies his situation a bit. If not, shoot away...

Thanks, Terry. I've read the rumors for months, it seems. I was wondering how plausible some of this business was.

As far as I can tell, based on what I've read around the 'net, the person who believes this the most is Watts over on BOL. And you know how that goes...he posts a comment about it which soon turns into threads around different Bama related sites.

I've yet to see someone who covers recruiting/the team as a profession deny its plausibility or possibility.

Jacob Coker?

Anyone heard anything else about him possibly coming to Alabama after the season? Even if he did I havent seen much of the kid to know if he would make a difference. Hard to figure out what to believe with all the damn rumors.

The rise of FSU's Jacob Coker, a very hot commodity

Have heard quite a lot about this kid wanting to transfer to Bama. He graduates soon and would be available to play immediately. Do you think Nussmeier and Saban would play him if he transferred and was more polished than those currently in line? If I were already in line waiting at Bama, I would probably be quite angry, but coaches are under tremendous pressure to win. Opinions?

I guess I haven't been paying close attention to the Coker situation despite the scuttlebutt. I wasn't aware his availability would be immediate more than anything, kind of like Russell Wilson when he went to Wisconsin? That's interesting. I imagine no one is guaranteed their starting spot unless they earn it over the course of spring and fall camps and I would imagine that would be the case for Coker as well. As long as the coaches open up the job for everyone to get a shot, whether they get mad or not can't really be controlled.

May the best man WIN!

This article will create some chatter.
