🏈 Roy Upchurch Career Possibly Over

Roy Upchurch's college football career was plagued by injuries, but the former Alabama running back still was invited to the Senior Bowl after a player who originally was invited couldn't play.

Upchurch took that opportunity to impress pro scouts, and even though he was not drafted, he was invited to try out for a free-agent contract this weekend with the Baltimore Ravens.

Upchurch, however, never made it to the football field. He failed his physical. His pro football future now would appear to be uncertain if not over.

Last season, as a backup behind Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram and freshman sensation Trent Richardson, Upchurch ran 48 times for 299 yards. He also caught 16 passes, including one for the game-winning touchdown at Auburn.

Although I hate that he will not have the possibility to play pro football, Upchurh has a degree from the University of Alabama. He also has a SEC Championship ring, a National Championship ring and a game winning touchdown in the last minutes of his last Iron Bowl. Even without the NFL, Mr. Upchurch has accomplishments most players dream about.

Sorry to hear this. Like you said he will do good in something else. Maybe a coaching job somewhere. His TD's in the Iron Bowl will be one of highlight of all time.

My favorite play from Upchurch (besides the game-winning TD against Auburn) was his TD against Va. Tech when he ran that guy over at the goal line. That play really swung the momentum in our favor.

Don't see why not. He had enough potential to do fine in the NFL. The combination of injuries and freakish first round talent in the first and second string kept it from happening. I still think if given a chance and under the right circumstances, he'd be a pretty manageable back in the NFL.

Don't get me wrong, I love the guy. I hope he can one day play in the NFL, but honestly I never saw him making it.

Roy was a good running back and I do believe that he had NFL talent but just could not stay healthy. I wish him good luck and hope he gets another shot.

And it set the tone for our season. The 2009 Crimson Tide wasn't going to win by being faster and running around you. No, they were going to win by being stronger and running through you. That's exactly what they did, game after game.

I hate it for Roy. I honestly thought that if he ever got 100%, he was going to be one of those backs that stays in the league for 8-10 years because of his versatility.

I hate that he doesn't get to pursue that dream, but he has his degree, the SEC and NC rings, and a lot of name recognition. Life still has a lot to offer him. I hope he succeeds magnificently.
