This article is the epidomy of what is wrong with our country today. PETA says no more UGA bulldogs... What next, no Bevo, Smokey or whatever the Barn calls that eagle. Screw that they have picked on the wrong crowd now cause CFB rules. Time to stand up sports fans.

Woof, beep! Replace Uga with a bulldog robot, says PETA

While it sounds like something Georgia Tech might suggest, Tim Bryant with WGAU (1340AM) in Athens just posted this:
People for Ethical Treatment of Animals has a suggestion for the University of Georgia, which is looking for a replacement for Uga VII, the Georgia Bulldog mascot who died last Thursday in Savannah:
PETA says the University should use what it calls an ā€œanimatronic dog,ā€ or use a person in a costume. PETA has sent its suggestion via e-mail to University of Georgia Athletic Director Damon Evans. The PETA e-mail follows…
In the wake of the untimely death of the University of Georgia’s (UGA) bulldog mascot, Uga VII, PETA has asked the school’s athletic director, Damon M. Evans, to replace the mascot with an animatronic dog–or to rely solely on a costumed mascot–instead of using another real bulldog. Bulldogs are prone to breathing difficulties, hip dysplasia, heart disorders, and other congenital ailments, and acquiring a dog from a breeder perpetuates the animal overpopulation crisis while causing another dog waiting in an animal shelter to be condemned to death.

First of all the Georgia folks do have a person in a dog costume called
"Hairy Dog", secondly there will be a UGA VIII, thirdly screw PETA and the
horse they rode in on..............wait a minute............that may bring the
ire of the PETA Nation down on my head for using the word horse in such
a politically incorrect manner..................whatever.....

The concept of being thoughtful and considerate towards the treatment of animals in everyday life is something I can get behind.

PETA, however, is a parody of itself. President Obama swats a fly, and they wish he had captured it and released it outside. Ridiculous.

With all the cost of airing their opinions, from print media produced, to puchased add or air time, to phone banks and internet access, to computers and office space, to hiring lawyers...a great deal of money continues to be spent. That "great deal of money" could have delayed inevitable death for many sheltered animals by months or even years. What kind of people choose hypocritical harassment law abiding citizens over the lives of poor little puppies and kittens.

a few years ago they were after the u of s carolina to change their mascot.
they claimed that you would not name your team the wife beater's or road rager's so you shouldn't name it after a fighting chicken.
while peta may be noticeably on the forefront with their crazy antics there is not a lot of difference between them and the human society (h$u$) and all the rest of the animal rights groups. your local humane society is an animal welfare organization. the h$u$ is not affiliated with local shelters and do not help them. there is a big difference in animal welfare groups and the activist's.

I don't even give PETA enough credit to respond to them. They are a complete joke and not to be taken seriously.
Next time one of them says something to you, laugh in their face and walk away laughing as loud as possible. Let them know where they stand with you>

they could just change their mascot to the University of Georgia Hot Dogs. Then everyone in the stadium could have a little mascot in their hand with chili, sauer kraut and all the fixins.

sad part for them is... they would still suck at football.

UGA's are treated better than most dogs, he might as well be the lead actor on Entourage with the treatment they receive.

That's what I was thinking as well. That dog is living heaven on earth and PETA wants it to stop. LOL!

Seriously though, PETA is made up of nothing but complete whack jobs. Like someone else mentioned earlier, they've become essentially an extremist group. Every time I hear something like this my initial thought is, "is this for publicity or is this serious"? Because normal people just don't seem to act like people that are part of groups like PETA. It's bizarre, extreme, behavior.

PETA gave LSWho grief about Mike the Tiger a few years ago. They ought to see the 5+ million dollar habitat that Mike lives in. I am all for not being cruel to animals but come on man, most of these mascot animals live better than some people.

I think as long as it gets the name PETA mentioned it is fine...... to protest like a moron.
