RIP Tony Gwynn

When I used to keep up with baseball players and their cards, I was a big Tony Gwynn fan. He was everything a baseball player should be. Great swing with a great attitude! Big loss!

No more than 40 strikeouts a year for him. Wow!

Hate to be a Debbie Downer here, but I hope a lot of kids see exactly what dip can do to people.

So sad to hear about Mr. Padre. Junior, who plays with the Phillies, was just placed on the bereavement list.

He was a great contact hitter. The way he could drive in runs was amazing. Especially with solid hand eye coordination, and he didn't lose his bat speed much.

One of my top 3 all-time favorite players, and without a doubt the best hitter of my generation. I was lucky enough to see him play more than once, including once in Mobile during a late spring training, regular season tune-up game against their AA team. The most memorable MLB game I've ever been to though, was August 4, 1999... the Cardinals beat the Padres 7-6 in part thanks to a McGwire HR, but Gwynn (3 for 4) had the most memorable HR of the night with a grand slam to right. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SLN/SLN199908040.shtml

The very next night, McGwire hit #500, and the day after that, Gwynn got his 3,000th hit in Montreal.

Seems just like yesterday he was helping Ted Williams thrown out the first itch at the All-Star game in Boston...

RIP, Mr. Padre...
