šŸˆ Richardson Returning?

I'd be shocked if he came back. Admirable as it may be, it is a stupid decision when you're projected as the top back in the draft. There is too much upside to leaving. Saban will encourage him to leave since he will be a 1st rounder.

He has nothing left to prove. Heisman isn't guaranteed, he already has a ring, possibly two. A catastrophic knee injury derails all of that earning--I'd prefer to set my children financially and teach them responsibility another way than make a decision that could take that away from me.

Perhaps. Andrew Luck's stock certainly doesn't seem to have been hurt by staying his senior year at Stanford. I'm sure TR is aware of the financial risk involved with staying for another year. If money were the sole deciding factor, then going to the NFL would be a no-brainer. TR seems to be a very mature kid who's got his act together. I did cringe a little at your use of the word 'stupid'. Whatever decision he makes is his own and will be made based on his priorities, wherever they may lie. I wouldn't presume to know what's best for him personally.

Fine, replace stupid with I'll-advised but the point is the same. Luck took a HUGE risk in coming back. Bradford did a few years ago and it almost bit him.

Unless Saban is full of it when he says he encourages them to leave for 1st round money, even he will tell him to go.

Got it/had it; big finanacial risk for TR to come back.

I'm confident that both Saban and Richardson are smart enough to know that money is not the end all-be all in all situations. I'm sure Trent will do what is right for him. And I'm reasonable sure that you will still think Saban is 'full of it' no matter what decision TR makes.

I don't necessarily think it would be a poor decision. What if he gets hurt in the NFL? What if so many other things. The stat is that somewhere near 80% of all NFL players end up bankrupt. There is something to be said for having a degree - no injury can take that away. Plus, he won't actually lose any money. He'll get paid the same and most backs only play 5 or 6 years anyway.

Do I think he'll stay? Probably not. But I certainly wouldn't call it a poor decision if he did. Actually, it would be pretty impressive to me. We'll see...

There is just one big thing you are missing. He can go to the NFL and get paid, even if it is a signing bonus (which would be well over a million), and get a degree. An injury cannot stop him from getting a degree, but it can stop him from getting into the NFL. Plus a RB only has so many hits they can take before breaking down.

I remember Bobby Humphrey coming back for his senior year and getting injured. He ended up being drafted in the NFL supplemental draft, not the regular one. That cost him a lot of money.

And look at Tyrone Prothro. What if you come back for your senior year and have an injury like that?

Take the money and run.

If he comes back, it will be a shock to us all. I expect him to leave in order to start an NFL career that traditionally, doesn't last that long for running backs anyway. Maybe the rookie salary cap makes it a decision that he'll basically get the same money this year or next year. I say best of luck TR in whatever decision you make!!

Third time's the charm, and that's this Saturday.

If he hasn't been that good, looks like you'd want him back.

I remember Peyton Manning staying for his senior season. Talk about a bad decision. Geesh. He only played what, fifteen years? He should have bolted for the money.

I remember Saban being upset with Ro. McClain because he wanted to come back....

I highly doubt he was UPSET with Ro, prolly more urging him to jump.

Prothro's not a fair comparison tho, he was never even being considered a top draft choice until that early run in 2005 in his Senior Year so thats not fair at all.

He made that decision last year. This is his senior year.

Technically he's a redshirt Junior, he'll graduate this year tho.

Trent should do what is best for TRENT! He can always come back and finish school. Running backs are too susceptible to injury for him to risk another year with the financial payout he is up for. If he wants to come back, I would be completley behind him, but I can certainly not blame him if he leaves.

I wasn't saying that Prothro was going to be selected as high as Richardson. My point was, look at the kind of injury a player could have. If Richardson comes back, he could have a God-awful injury like that. Or screw up his knee. So many different ways he could lower his stock in the NFL by getting hurt. That was the point.

the history, tradition and folklore of The University of Alabama's football team is far more important than money. money is temporary and fleeting. what you do as a crimson tide player will go down in history. moneyball is the whore of the football universe.

If that was the sole factor in whether a player leaves Bama early or not, Trent has his name already "writ in Crimson Flame."
