šŸˆ Richardson Returning?

I was a little surprised to read where, after yesterday's game he said in an interview that he had "a whole 'nother year" - especially knowing he would likely be drafted in the first round.

Hey, I'm not complaining. With AJ, Lacy, and TR back, our backfield should be pretty potent next year.

I wonder what's the basis for his reasoning. Finishing his degree? Does anyone on this board have any insight?

He was quoted as saying "He wanted to set an example for his children about education." He is very close to graduating and it is very important to him, but You and I both know when he sits down with Saban for pro evaluation he will get the thumbs up from coach. Whatever he chooses I will be happy for him.

I'd be shocked if he came back. Admirable as it may be, it is a stupid decision when you're projected as the top back in the draft. There is too much upside to leaving. Saban will encourage him to leave since he will be a 1st rounder.

He has nothing left to prove. Heisman isn't guaranteed, he already has a ring, possibly two. A catastrophic knee injury derails all of that earning--I'd prefer to set my children financially and teach them responsibility another way than make a decision that could take that away from me.

Perhaps. Andrew Luck's stock certainly doesn't seem to have been hurt by staying his senior year at Stanford. I'm sure TR is aware of the financial risk involved with staying for another year. If money were the sole deciding factor, then going to the NFL would be a no-brainer. TR seems to be a very mature kid who's got his act together. I did cringe a little at your use of the word 'stupid'. Whatever decision he makes is his own and will be made based on his priorities, wherever they may lie. I wouldn't presume to know what's best for him personally.

He will go pro. He has kids to support and has nothing left to prove at the college level. I wish him the best in whatever decision he makes and all if us from his hometown will follow him in his career in the NFL.

Honestly hes said 2 or 3 times already that hes in no rush to get to the NFL. I wouldnt be surprised at all if he came back. The potential to win multiple national championships, and break just about every rushing record at Alabama are very inticing things.

I agree completely with this.

It would be great to see him back next year. With so many starters coming back, and our top RB? (Possibly Heisman and 2-time NT winner??)
Bring on NT #15!

Imagine an RB who could say he played—and won—three national championships.

Of course, that's just my fantasy land.

It would be a poor decision for him to stay. Possibly top 5 pick, top 10 for sure and risk all that to come back to a team breaking in how many new defensive starters? Plus a RB only has so many carries before they break down. Thanks for the memories Trent, now go get your money. He can still earn a degree while in the NFL.

I don't necessarily think it would be a poor decision. What if he gets hurt in the NFL? What if so many other things. The stat is that somewhere near 80% of all NFL players end up bankrupt. There is something to be said for having a degree - no injury can take that away. Plus, he won't actually lose any money. He'll get paid the same and most backs only play 5 or 6 years anyway.

Do I think he'll stay? Probably not. But I certainly wouldn't call it a poor decision if he did. Actually, it would be pretty impressive to me. We'll see...

Yeah, he could get hurt in the NFL, but he gets paid. He keeps his money, signing money, endorsements, etc. Then he could still finish his degree. BUT, get hurt before the NFL and all of that is gone if it is a catastrophic injury.

I don't buy this. Chatter from the Richardson camp since last off season has been that he's leaving at the end of this year. I suppose he could change his mind but he's the best rb prospect to come out of college since Peterson (I think he's a better prospect than AP) and if not for his position he'd be the first non-qb taken. As it stands I can't imagine Washington, Cleveland, and Miami all 3 passing on him.

I want to first say that I think there is no way he'll stay for his senior season. But could you imagine a backfield with him, Lacy, AND Barry Sanders Jr.?? Unstoppable
