Something tells us that Auburn coach Gus Malzahn wonāt be calling former Auburn WR Ricardo Louis with an invite to come back to Jordan-Hare Stadium anytime soon.
At least not without an apology.
Saturday was supposed to be a celebratory day for the former Tigers receiver, who surprised many NFL Draft experts by being selected as the No. 114 overall player by the Cleveland Browns.
It was the best case scenario for a guy that struggled to consistently differentiate himself from the crop of draftable receivers during his career at Auburn.
But instead of it being all smiles, Louis took his first opportunity to speak with the Cleveland media as a chance to take a jab at his alma mater.
Louis said he was not developed as a receiver at Auburn, and thanked the Browns for seeing past that. He also criticized the simplicity of the Auburn offensive scheme.
Auburn beat writer Brandon Marcello grabbed a screen shot of Louisā comments from the Brownsā website on Saturday.
āI would say that the Browns saw things from me that other teams didnāt see. They understand that I was in a scheme at Auburn that didnāt require me to run very many routes, very diverse or complex routes and the fact that I was not developed as a receiver at the time,ā he said.
āGoing into the combine, I wanted to prove to everybody that I was versatile and I was able to run routes and catch balls smooth and well. Doing that, looking ahead, they got to see that they can develop me and mold me into the receiver they want me to be.ā
While what he said may be true, itās still not a good look for a guy trying to make a good impression on a new fan base.
It also probably didnāt earn him any points with Auburn fans.
Some things are just better left unsaid.

Well, heās not wrong. You donāt want a receiver to run complex routes if you donāt have a quarterback to make those throws.

If he felt that way, he should have said so while he was at Pro Day.. Why wait until after you leave so you donāt have to face the very same people that put you in a position to be in the draft.. Typical coward move.

Damn dude, maybe if youād caught at least half of the easy drops you had last year, you wouldnāt be going to the damn Browns where all good careers go to die. At least you made the prayer catch Jerky.
