...and by reports, it's what Kirk McNair is reporting.

Recent background: At Washington. Was the at the center of an investigation when a high school players' track coach accused him of paying for tutoring and online classes.

That resulted in a six week by the NCAA and Washington and Lupoi were both cleared.

Recruiter, to say the least. Saban and company have had their "run-in's " with Lupoi with the most notable being Tosh being credited for getting Keenan Allen to flip to Cal.

BIO:
Tosh Lupoi was named Washington's defensive line coach and defensive run game coordinator on January, 16, 2012. Lupoi came to Washington from California where he'd spent the previous four years as defensive line coach. Lupoi was the youngest full-time coach in Cal history when he joined the staff at the age of 26 in 2008 and remained the youngest Pac-10 coach for two additional seasons. In all, he was associated with Cal football for 12 years having spent six as a Golden Bear player (2000-05, which included an extra season due to a medical redshirt), two as a graduate assistant (2006-07) and four as defensive line coach. Cal's 2011 defense ranked No. 1 overall in the Pac-12 Conference. They gave a conference best 332.9 yards per game, were third in total sacks collecting 34, gave up the fewest first downs per game (17.4) and allowed the fewest passing yards per game (204.2). The Bears' 2010 defense also led the Pac-10 and ranked in the top 25 nationally in per-game averages for sacks (2.83 per game, No. 13), total defense (319.08 yards per game, No. 18) and pass defense (187.00 yards per game, No. 21). Cal was also first in the Pac-10 in first downs allowed (217) and second in opponents' third down conversion percentage (34.7%). The team's pass efficiency defense and scoring defense, which held opponents to 17 points or less in eight of 12 games, were both third in the Pac-10, as well as 31st and 40th nationally. Lupoi has helped develop first-round NFL Draft picks each of the last two drafts in defensive lineman Tyson Alualu and Cameron Jordan, making Cal only the second Pac-10 team to have ever had defensive linemen selected in the first round of the NFL Draft in back-to-back years.

The 2010 Rivals Recruiter of the Year has also been part of a recruiting team that has inked signing classes in 2011 and 2010 that have ranked as high as No. 11 and No. 14 nationally. Lupoi was a defensive lineman for Cal from 2000-05. He played alongside three future NFL players, and led the Bears' defensive line in tackles in 2003 when he was the recipient of the Ken Cotton Award as the squad's Most Courageous Player as he played the final four games of the campaign with a broken right thumb. Lupoi earned Pac-10 All-Academic recognition in 2005 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in American studies in 2005 and his master's in education in 2007. The product of De La Salle High School, one of the most successful programs in the history of prep football, earned All-State honors and won a national title as a prep. His father, John Lupoi, played collegiately at Brigham Young and later was a part-time assistant coach at Cal.

Major pick up for Alabama. His players love him and he can definitely recruit. Top 3 in the country atleast. He's been out West, so that may help us infultrate the west coast a lot better than we have before. USC hates to see this I'm sure.

Rumblings out of Alabama are that former Washington assistant coach Tosh Lupoi could be the Tide’s next director of player personnel.

Lupoi, UW’s defensive line coach the past two seasons, was to join Steve Sarkisianā€˜s staff at USC in December until a local high school coach, when confronted by the Los Angeles Times, said that Lupoi had paid $4,500 for a UW recruit’s tutoring. Lupoi, through his Twitter account, denied the allegations.

The NCAA investigated the allegations for six weeks but did not penalize Lupoi or UW.

After Chris Petersenā€˜s hiring, UW reassigned Lupoi within the department. In January, Lupoi and UW agreed to a $300,000 ā€œmutual separationā€ buyout of his contract, which ran through the 2014 season.
Lupoi left his alma mater, Cal, to join Sarkisian’s staff at UW in January 2012. He had a reputation as one of the Pac-12′s top recruiters, and his salary of $350,000 last year made him one of the conference’s 10 highest-paid assistant coaches.

The reporters are mostly Twitter chatter and message board fodder at this point, so we’ll continue to monitor any developments.

Report: Alabama expected to hire former Washington assistant Tosh Lupoi in off-field role

Tosh Lupoi, who has been widely regarded as one of the best recruiters on the West Coast for years but was left without a job after a recent NCAA investigation, is expected to join Alabama's support staff, according to a report Sunday from CBSSports.com.According to the report, which cites multiple anonymous sources, Lupoi could land a position within Alabama's player personnel department. The Crimson Tide is looking to fill at least one spot within that area after Kevin Steele's move from Director of Player Personnel to inside linebackers coach.

Tyler Siskey
, who was Alabama's assistant director of player personnel in 2013, labels himself as Director of Player Personnel on his Twitter bio page. Siskey was named FootballScoop.com's director of player personnel of the year in January.

Alabama has yet to announce the hires of any new support staff members or graduate assistants for the 2014 season. A number of new faces have been seen on the field during the Crimson Tide's first four spring practices.

Lupoi, 32, was a defensive end at Cal from 2000-2005. The Concord, Calif., native worked as a Golden Bears' graduate assistant for two years before he was promoted to defensive line coach, making him the youngest on-field assistant coach in program history.

He gained national prominence as a recruiter when he was named the 2010 Rivals.com Recruiter of the Year. Two of his defensive linemen at Cal, Tyson Alualu and Cameron Jordan, went on to be first-round selections in the NFL Draft.
In Lupoi's final two seasons at Cal, the Golden Bears ranked 11th and 17th, respectively, in Rivals.com's team recruiting rankings. They've been 23rd, 32nd and 46th in the three years since his departure.

Lupoi left his alma mater in 2012 to join Steve Sarkisian's staff at Washington. He was anticipated to follow Sarkisian to USC but he was left in limbo because of a six-week NCAA investigation into allegations of improper benefits.

The investigation came in response to allegations from a former high school coach who said Lupoi paid $4,500 in cash for defensive lineman Andrew Basham, a 2013 Washington signee who ultimately failed to qualify. The NCAA formally cleared Lupoi in early February and did not levy any penalties.

In the midst of the investigation, Lupoi and Washington agreed to a mutual separation agreement that paid him $300,000. Lupoi made an annual salary of $350,000 in his final season with the Huskies.

"I'm excited to take the next step in life," Lupoi told CBSSports.com's Bruce Feldman in February. "I'm blessed to have been around so many exceptional leaders and so many amazing people in my career. My time at the UW was greatly valuable, and I'm very thankful for the opportunity to have worked at such a wonderful institution. This recent adversity has only strengthened me as a man and as a coach. My passion for the game, making a difference in young men's lives will never be deterred."
