🏈 Report: Pac-10 targeting six Big 12 schools

Don't see it happening.

Money follows T.V. ratings, and T.V. ratings follow the population base...and California is the only respectable T.V. market that they would be adding. Surfers wont watch Oklahoma versus Texas A&M.

Texas adn Texas A&M will stay with the block of Texas teams (in whatever form that ends up being) or join the SEC.

Dang it; I thought (or hoping) this crap was over due to the rumors dying down. I heard Notre Lame was finally caving to become the twelfth member of the Big Ten so all was good, now Pac-10 has to start the crap back up.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

To continue my crusade:

The SEC needs to grab up Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. This would add four well funded and highly competitive prigrams, plus presence in the giant market areas of Houston and Dallas, as well as the good sized ones of Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

IF the SEC expands to 16 teams, then we need two from the southwest and two from the east. Not for league balance, but to balance the league.

Grab two football teams from the SW (Texas and aTm the first choice) and two basketball teams from the east (North Carolina and Duke the real choices). This would "balance the league" by strengthening the conference in football in a football region and increase the basketball presence in a basketball region and beyond (both UNC and Duke along with Kentucky would give the SEC a dominating market presence all across the country) - with some help to football too.

I still believe 16 teams might be too large and initially thought Slive would resist such an increase unless the Big Televen added five teams. But, from what I have heard, Slive may propose such a move even if the Big Televen only adds one (read Notre Dame - which I believe is their ultimate objective) or three. Notre Dame would require a dramatic counter move and a three team addition by the Big Televen would mean the SEC would need to trump the move rather than match it.

The combination of football and basketball programs would be a trumping play.

It will all come down to money, as you all know. I don't see why we don't hear more from the Big 12 on this issue. Why aren't they fighting to keep programs and to re-distribute wealth in the conference better? I know that Texas hates Kansas and K State because they don't add to the bottom line, but let's get real. Texas is a big dog and commands the biggest $$'s of any college football program.

I personally believe the whole Texas/Texas A&M arrangement is going to kill any large-scale future realignments that the big BCS conferences want to do. To take one, you must take the other. They are both strong programs and good schools, but it's like AT&T trying to merge with T-Mobile: it's just a damn big thing to pull off.

However, Notre Dame needs to join a conference or go to hell. :D

There seems to be a limited gain if Texas is not somewhere in the mix. And where Texas goes, Texas A&M goes. That's 14.

So the question is, what is the right number?

If the Big10 expands, do we match their size? If they add just Norte Dame, do he stand pat in light of their net gain, or do we push to 14?

If they push to 16, does the ACC expand, making it more difficult for us to exp[and east? Would Oklahoma and OK State be a better pair than any others we could get from the east?

Where is the best value in adding 2, in adding 4?

After giving it some more thought, tex & tex A&M in the SW.....and Fl St. & Miami in the east. Would probly be the best bet.
I personally care nothing for the OK Schools. I HATE Ok almost as much as i hate TN & the Barn.
and ppl talk about us as a fan base being delutional........Sooner fans have us beat hands down.
Given the choice of spending the day with a bunch of Okies or a hand gun......i'll take the hand gun. :lance:

This talk just doesn't seem to want to die down. You have to figure that the Big 10 and Pac 10 are going to expand but doesn't it sure sound odd to say Texas and A&M in the Pac 10??? I'm guessing that the SEC has at least 4 scenarios ready to put in play at a moments notice. I kinda thought that if the Pac 10 expanded, they would look at BYU and maybe Boise, but who knows.

Does everyone think we are gonna see 16 team conferences now instead of 14 or 12?

I feel like the Big East could be gobbled up here as well and what of the ACC???

Why would Southern Cal want to support the addition of those six Big 12 teams? Do they actually want to add competition for the Pac 10 title? They've got to realize that the conference crown won't be as easily won as in the past.

This is going to be interesting. ESPN is reporting that Boise is being invited to join the Mountain West Conf. The Big 12 giving deadlines for Missouri and Nebraska???? There is no telling what the landscape is going to look like by this time next year:dazed:

Texas schools and California T.V. markets are Cats-n-Dogs sleeping together. It just don't work.

But for USC (and that may be going away here soon), a PAC-10 schedule offers Texas nothing other than a less respectful schedule than they have now. And if it doesn't help them they will not bite.

For Texas, and as Texas goes so goes A&M, Baylor, and TTU, it only makes sense that its the SEC or the Big XII is some form.
