šŸˆ Report: Ed Orgeron Will Be Defensive Line Coach At Bama (Yahoo! says yes, CBS says no)

Nick Saban’s staff could be about to get even more loaded. According to Yahoo’s Rand Getlin, former USC interim Head Coach Ed Orgeron could be joining Alabama soon as the DL coach:Hearing Ed Orgeron may be the new DL coach at #Alabama. Nothing definitive yet, but source says it'll happen "unless they hit a snag".— Rand Getlin (@Rand_Getlin) January 13, 2014This would be a huge pickup for the Crimson Tide. Not only is Orgeron as great DL coach but he is a fantastic recruiter. If this is true, Saban isn’t just the best in the business at getting 5-star players but coaches as well.I guess it doesn’t seem like Saban is ready to let go of the dynasty just yet.

It may go even deeper if he's hired. He could be prime candidate to take over as DC in relatively near future. I just think that Smart will be a HC somewhere sooner rather than later; after all, he did interview for the ALLBarn job last year. I don't see any juicy openings for Smart this year, but we all know he is THE hot assistant right now, same category as Fisher and Muschamp before they were hired.

Has Orgeron ever been a DC? He's been a good DL coach, recruiting coordinator, Assistant HC and HC - but has he ever fully executed being an architect and a quick thinking, adjustment making coordinator on D?

I agree with an assessment of Kiffin's motivation and believe it's the same for Orgeron. They both are under pressure to perform if they ever intend to work back to their prior positions. I believe we'll get their best as assistants, with the only reservation that one or both could leave us in a lurch between the regular season and playoffs to take other jobs - most likely in seasons two of their Tide tenure.

RTR,

Tim

No, he hasn't. He's coached the DL and LB'ers, been a recruiting coordinator a few times and of course the HC stint in MS.

I have mixed feelings about it. There are a LOT of negatives I can see developing. I know Saban would nip them in the bud, but better NO problems than corrected problems. That said, I am aware of O's strengths and could understand if we hired him.
