| FTBL Recap....they are human!

Wow…..Nick Saban and his players are humans.

After winning the Tulane game and just reading the post over the weekend I started to think about how high our expectations are!
I understand that we should dismantle lower level teams but all week we slammed Tulane for being this pansy team full of small girls on the OL and we will just run run run all day on them. I think we just need to step back and look at this for the positive and not the negative.

1. FRESHMAN - Look at all training that our players are getting. Our freshman played the biggest game of there lives when they went to ATL and dismantled Clemson. Then they got to have there first ever game inside BDS. Its been a crazy last two weeks. I understand that our team is not full of freshman and that they should not be shell shocked but give them a break. They did there best. And I would rather struggle now then against some tough teams when we start conference play.

2. JPW – He is the quarterback of one of the greatest college football programs ever. Yeah he over threw some receivers and yeah he could have ran and made some plays but lets not forget what JPW did against Arkansas last year when he marched down the field and scored with only 8 secs left. And NO don’t give me that crap about “does one” play justify ten bad ones. NO. But one great drive allows some breathing room when you make some mistakes in a game that you win. JPW talked after the game…"We didn't come out very strong," said Wilson, who was 11 of 23 for 73 yards. "Tulane played good, but a lot of it was just us not executing, not doing what we need to do to move the ball. But we pulled out a win, and that's the big thing."
http://blog.al.com/rapsheet/2008/09/saban_its_great_to_win_but_we.html
He understands that he needs to improve and I’m expecting a break out game against WKU for JPW.

And if anyone thinks JPW sucks, you can do to things:
1. Shut up
2. Ask yourself did you play QB for Alabama? Or are you perfect?
So lets remember that we couldn’t even throw the ball 20 yards with our kids in the backyard. Much less 60 yards with 92k people and less then 3.5 seconds to throw it! (avg time a QB has before a sack)
So lets get off his back and let him do his job. Remember that we don’t pay him $4 million a season!

3. Nick Saban – "I have a hard time saying we're for real unless we learn to play with consistency,"

That’s all I need to say about coach. He got his 100 career win and he gets paid a lot to do his job. I think that he knows what he is doing with the QB situation. So I don’t think some of us should “harp” on the fact that JPW wasn’t pulled because Nick Saban and our QB coaches know what they are doing.

WE SHOULDN’T BE WORRIED!

WE SHOULDN’T BE WORRIED!

Unfortunately a lot of other SEC teams are human to and have managed to learn how to handle business when they play directional lower tier schools rather than making it a common habit of laying eggs and even frequently getting beat by them.

And Coach Saban is exactly right about "being for real" when we can't play with consistency. Until we start handling business and putting these lower tier schools away all we're going to be viewed as and all we're going to be is a mid tier SEC school that can't compete with the big boys. And that's NOT ALABAMA FOOTBALL.

I dang sure would be worried after getting beat by ULM last season because we laid an egg and then follow it up this season with laying an egg against a Tulane team that we should have put 60 pts on. To me we're still showing signs of the same problems we had last season. We keep playing like this and we're looking at a .500 season or worse.

I doubt at the end of the season anybody will saying a .500 season "was a part of the process".

We need to start getting better. This year's schedule is ten times worse than last year's.

Thank you. You would have thought we lost the game after reading the forum this weekend.

The only issue I have had with JP so far is long ball. Other than that, we will make adjustments.

Why are we slapping TULANE in the face?

They are not a bad team!

They are not a huge BCS team but ask Virginia Tech and WVU about a "lower level tier" team called ECU!
Its college football. Everyone to think that BCS teams and big team programs cant lose to "lower level" teams is foolish.

Of course this isnt ALABAMA FOOTBALL! I could have told you that. Thats why we got the best coach. So we could start to BUILD the program back. :)

I just think we need to remember that we are not going to score 80 points everyday and that we play alot of freshman. Inn two or three years then we can complain. NOT YET.

Just wanted to comment on this as an outsider and a fan of a team that always seems to not quite "close the deal" when they should. (See Vandy game)

Saban has such young talent that it's unrealistic to expect a stand up performance like the one against Clemson week in and week out. Also, Saban's plan has always been to play a very ball controlled game, where the score may not always be "pretty" but with the objective always being to win the game and to not beat yourself with too many mistakes.

I didn't get to see a lot of the highlights of your game, but saw enough to know what we already know... The talent's there, but it's young. Sometimes it's hard to get guys up for a game against someone like Tulane (with all due respect to Tulane).

I completly agree with this statement... i think that the mentality of our players was not there... i think some of them thought the same way they did last year against LA Monroe along with the fact that we had 2 missing O linemen and i think 2 or 3 others in different positions than they were used to playing.... and like JPW
a lot of it was just us not executing
3 of the 4 sacks last night were from the RBs missing the block on the blitz... also i dont think that JJ is 100% confident in his route running and isnt giving 100% because he is unsure of himself for now... I think that we should have run more than we did like we did on Clemson... from what i heard we were doing alot of throwing on 1st through 3rd downs... but one final thing though we win as a team and we lose as a team... its not just one person that loses a game...

The freshmen aren't the problem. I completely understand not expecting the frosh. to come in a play lights out. It's the OL that consist of players that have been here since 2006 that still can't get the job done that is troublesome. CNS said himself tha the guys that played on the OL in place of Davis and Smith were VERY CAPABLE of getting the job done. Which tells me the players have the ability, weren't "outmatched" and had no excuse to get embarrassed like that. But again, we show up and can't muster the mental focus necessary to put away a team that we were across the board superior to. And if you think for one minute Tulane had half the talent we did you're grossly mistaken. That is the glaring problem. Not the freshmen.

I expect true frosh. to struggle. But players that have been here since 2006 and even the players entering their second year to struggle that bad is scary. Again, we keep doing this and I promise you we'll walk out of another season .500 or worse.

Don't you remember the PC? It was more of other positions missing blocks...ie runningbacks. Tulane is a good team...and you'll see that Saturday night when they play ECU. So...let's stop trying to crucify our team for having one semi-lackluster game.

Thank you, i understand that. But its been one game. Lets play some good games under our belt before we say we are going .500.

We are 2-0 or 0-2?

Lets just be happy we are 2-0! And going to be 3-0 after this weekend! :)

I'd have to look at my notes to see if we passed more on first down against Tulane than we did against Clemson. That said, we ran the ball over 2/3rds of the time on first down against Tulane.

Our WR play isn't very good right now...on that note, you are spot on.

So it would be John Parker Wilson.
And your a flake. Anyone that wants JPW gone can shut the heck up!

Thank you!

BTW....Barner fans are welcome...just dont be stupid!

well i didnt get to see the game... i only listened to a little bit of it b4 falling asleep... but from what i heard it seemed to me that we passed alot more than we should have after establishing the fact that our qb was getting pressured and wasnt doing well under pressure... although i can kind of understand why McElwain didnt with us losing a key player and having switched up some others on the o line... so im pretty sure i was wrong... guess the part i listened to we were passing the ALOT....
