People need to realize that the main reason in auburns streak is because they have been getting the top recruits in the state of alabama while we were on probation. Now we are basically getting all of alabamas top recruits(really shows you who the main state university is doesnt it??) Glad to see things back to normal

Things wont really be back to normal until we beat there arse, but i agree with you. Probation did what it was suppose to do.

Auburn's recruiting base has never been the state of Alabama. In fact, out of the last 10 years, I doubt you could come up with a quarter of the classes we've been after we lost to Auburn.

49 players from Alabama. That's got to be considered their base.

you actually think it's all recruiting....tell that to Boise State last year, tell that to A&M this year.

It's the coaching...

How many of those players were we in direct competition for? 49% of a base of 125 doesn't make a recruiting base, IMO.

Out of that list, I only saw a few we "lost." It doesn't figure into their success. A solid coaching staff is what makes what they've done on the field the last few years. What hasn't worked has been fired. It's a recipe for getting it right, sooner or later.

I dont mean to argue but the barn never would have got Carnell Williams if we hadnt been on probation.

Terry,

I was just saying that the state of Alabama is still the Barn's recruiting base, regardless if we are going after the same recruits or not. I lived in this area long enough to know that they have pipelines to GA and FL but AL is their base.

why do you say that? you have anything to back that up?

just curious...
he grew up an Alabama fan did he not?

I recall that as well and Pop's got pissed because Fran went to visit Croyle before Barnell. (sanctions did not help either!)

I don't remember that, but I was in San Diego at the time (not that it's a valid excuse) :D

Pretty good for a Georgia school.

Georgia won't take 'em although they permeate this ATL market. I think the AJC gives as much coverage to them as Ga. Tech.

I really hope we get that Clemson game in ATL done. It would be a great opportunity for recruiting this area.

Actually, that was a fine time not to live in this area!

if i recall correctly, Fran was recruiting Carnell to play cornerback, not runningback. Carnell wanted to play runningback. that's how i recall losing him.

Nope musso. That is incorrect. I visited with John Croyle at his ranch after Carnell was recruited. Maybe he doesn't have all the facts, but his stance supports what bamafan4ever stated. Originally he and Brodie even wanted to play together. Carnell was recruited for RB as much at Alabama as Auburn. His dad did NOT like that Fran's 1st visit went to Brodie. Of course I'm sure AU played that up as well.
