LSUâs Tyrann Mathieu Plans To Trash Crimson Tide Moms
January 6, 2012 NCAAFB, SEC 24 Comments
LSU star cornerback and Heisman Trophy finalist Tyrann Mathieu is preparing for the BCS National Championship Game in a rather odd way â by looking up the names of mothers of Alabama football players for some trash talking on the field.
âYou try to get the edge any way you got to,â Mathieu said. âWhen you are on the field youâre just having fun, youâre just talking. If you can get a player out of his zone, you win the battle.â
Mathieu, who is nicknamed âHoney Badgerâ for his ferocious play on the field, is known for his trash talking.
âIâm not trying to be arrogant about that,â Mathieu said. âWe are so good on defense, nobody wants to get in a shouting match with me.â
Alabama defensive tackle Josh Chapman said trash talking is just part of the game.
âI hope a lot of them know my mommaâs name,â Chapman said. âBecause if theyâre trying to do that much to find out your mommaâs name then youâre doing too much besides learning about some football.â
Alabama wide receiver Marquis Maze wants Mathieu to leave his mother out of it.
âI have respect for him,â Maize said. âBut if he says something about anyone in my family, I will have real problems with it. I trash talk, but I mainly keep peopleâs families out of it.â
Mathieu, a 5â9â sophomore, has had an incredible season. He ranks No. 1 in college football in fumble recoveries, No. 1 in the SEC in forced fumbles and No. 2 nationally in punt return yardage.
