🏈 Reading around the 'net on baseball's loss to UAB last night, the concensus seems to be lack of focu

Eight pitchers. Eight.

Right handled, left handed, and off-speed guys. For you guys that have played baseball, think about that for a minute. How difficult is it to get into any type of rhythm when you're facing a different guy each time at bat? Even when you're in the dugout and just watching you can get a sense of how a guy is pitching which translates to how well you do in the batters box.

Facing that type of approach, can it be called a lack of focus? Do you think the team, coming off the A&M series win and facing Auburn this weekend, didn't have the right frame of mind?

Perhaps frame of mind, perhaps it is a game that was more important to UAB than to Bama. I am sure that we rested anyone with a nagging injury, and I doubt that we used any pitchers whom we are counting on for this weekend.

Baseball players can be as competitive as anyone else, but (perhaps because the season has so many more games) are more likely to take a long view of the season and its objectives.

If a baseball coach decides to use eight of his pitching staff it does demonstrate the game means a lot. Means more than it did to UA?

We started Bramblett last night, true freshman, and if I'm not mistaken it's his first collegiate start. He did well. If I recall the stats correctly he allowed three hits in just over six innings and one run. I know I recall his strikeouts correctly; he had nine. Defensively we didn't have any errors.

I get what you're saying PJ, but it certainly seems like every time we got a hit, they changed pitchers.

These mid week games sometimes mean more to some than others. I imagine UAB was switching pitchers as often as possible to throw off any rhythm that the team may have gotten as soon as we strung a couple of hits together. It is impossible to get a rhythm going at the plate when you see someone different every 3-4 batters.

UA is in a tight spot midweek this time of year. The Tide can't waste anyone with an SEC matchup on the horizon. Does it mean more to UAB? Absolutely. Match these two in a Regional and see how it works out. That might happen too.

Right now they're sitting on the bubble, I'd think. I glanced at the RPI earlier today and they were ranked 59th.

On a side note, I didn't realize Bama was ranked #1 on the RPI this week. (WarrenNolan.com)
