šŸˆ read somewhere that the officials during bama/florida game

were the same that got suspended from the 2009 Arkansas/Florida game.

Has anyone seen a reasonable explanation regarding the Brantley fumble.

I sure would like some clarification. At least they're consistent, consistently bad. It just looked like they were never on the same page. Even on one that worked in our favor with the long 3rd down Maze conversion. The ref right there on the sideline called him out while some other ref overruled him.

Hindsight 20/20 I'm sure Florida fans are wishing we would have been rewarded the football (on that obvious fumble) and the TD. It would have saved Brantley getting hurt.

I'd really like a clip of that fumble that you're talking about plano. From what I remember it was a clear fumble to me and he never regained possession despite his body being on top of it. We got robbed in my opinion but like I said I'd love to see a clip of that if anybody knows where to find it.

The only explanation I heard that makes any sense was that they thought Brantley had possession and was down prior to having the ball poked out. Clearly, that wasn't the case, but it's the only plausible one. The most confusing thing in the broadcast was the only explanation was "time out, Florida". Actually, the play stood as a fumble, Florida recovery, and then Florida called time out.

It was an inadvertent whistle, which means they also blew the blown call. On that type of inadvertent whistle, UF should have had the option of playing the down over. They counted the down and gave UF the ball at the supposed point of recovery.

The NCAA rule is in 3.1.2

ARTICLE 2. a. A live ball becomes a dead ball as provided in the rules or
when an official sounds his whistle (even though inadvertently) or otherwise
signals the ball dead (A.R. 4-2-1-II and A.R. 4-2-4-I).
b. If an official sounds his whistle inadvertently or otherwise signals the
ball dead during a down (Rules 4-1-3-k and m):

1. When the ball is in player possession, then the team in possession
may elect to put the ball in play where declared dead or replay the
down.
2. When the ball is loose from a fumble, backward pass or illegal pass,
then the team in possession may elect to put the ball in play where
possession was lost or replay the down.

officiating was pretty bad in that game. that whole sequence there just blew my mind, obvious fumble, Brantley lays on top of the ball but the whole time he was layin on it it was rolling around underneath him (no possession, and i have no idea what Brantley was thinking) and noone blows a whistle until Hubbard is almost to the 10. Florida fans can blame the refs for Upshaw obliterating him on the next play too because had that been called properly maybe Upshaw wouldnt have ate his soul.

Speaking of idiot calls by the refs during this game. How about that 2nd TD catch of their's that was overturn. The ref had his eyes on the kid's feet the whole time, and never even looked up to check to see is he actually caught the ball...which was clear he didn't. Hell, the Florida player even punched the ground knowing he didn't catch the ball, only to stand up being confused as to why his own teammates were celebrating, so he just jumped on in and went crazy.

To make things worse, the very next play (and this one was a little more discrete) the Florida WR had the ball in his arms, only to have one of our defenders (maybe Menzie) knock the ball on the ground. Clearly not a catch. Hell, not even close...the ball was rolling in the middle of the field. But sure enough, if you watch closely, the sideline ref runs in signaling that Florida had scored. He held this signal for about 2 seconds before he realized that he clearly, wasn't paying attention.

I have to agree, those guys were not on the same page most of the night. We have seen guys screw up a play or two during a game that could cause a major uproar. (late 90's playing Arkansas with Dubose as the HC and Arky having 12 men on the field comes to mind), but most of the night these guys were contradicting one another. I'm just glad the game had a wide enough margin that they couldn't screw it up. Shaw definitely needs to have a pow-wow with those guys and tell them that they need to get their crap together.

Sadly enough, that crew is considered one of the best in the SEC today.

Penn Wagers crew...

TP....haven't you met Penn, I thought I remember you saying he is from your area and you have had chats with him.

I agree, Penn does have a pretty decent crew, I always felt Steve Shaw and his crew were the best, but now he is in Redding's spot. Did Rocky (Goode) retire? He always seemed to have a pretty good crew. I think that  Ritter and his guys are pretty good. All in all, I feel we have pretty good officials, but this crew from Saturday night seemed to be, a Charlie Foxtrot from the get go.
