One of Alabama's former 5-star freshmen broke a bone in his foot during Thursday’s practice, BamaOnLine has learned. He had surgery Friday morning.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama freshman defensive end LaBryan Ray broke a bone in his foot in Thursday’s practice, BamaOnLine has learned. He had surgery Friday morning.

Ray is the seventh Crimson Tide player to require surgery and miss an extended period of time this season. He joins outside linebackers Christian Miller (biceps) and Terrell Lewis(elbow), tight end Miller Forristall (ACL), offensive lineman Brandon Kennedy (leg) and inside linebackers Shaun Dion Hamilton (knee) and Mack Wilson (foot).

The former 5-star recruit appeared in six of the Tide’s 10 games this year as a reserve along the defensive front. Ray registered five tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.

Ray saw his first game action against Ole Miss when he provided defensive line depth in place of injured senior Da'Shawn Hand, who luckily for Alabama, has returned to the field.

A native of Madison, Ala., Ray was the No. 15 overall player and No. 1 player in the state of Alabama during the 2017 recruiting cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Its going to take a miracle for our team to overcome the injuries, poor line play (both sides), poor play calling and inexperience. Honestly, I just don't see it. Our defense couldn't get off the field against Miss St, and the competition only gets better after tomorrow's game. Dabol better bring his A+ game, because we will need to out score teams starting with awbarn. And when its all said and done, hopefully our coaching staff won't get ravaged by attrition. Most feel Pruitt and Tosh are gone. A HUGE lose for BAMA's recruiting efforts.
