R. Lee Ermey, best known for his Golden Globe-nominated portrayal of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in “Full Metal Jacket,” has died. He was 74.

I was about to post about this, May he R.I.P.

Just now checking in on the Quad, after a long absence. Heard about this on that day. Met him about 7 years ago, he was at a CMP(Civilian Marksmanship Program) event in Anniston. I did IT work for CMP and was there that day. Spoke with him for a few minutes and he is far from the character he played in most roles, very easygoing. I guess he was very good at separating what he did as a drill Sgt(then movie roles as a hardass) and his life away from the bases. RIP Gunny.
