🏈 Question about how we will prepare for the playoffs

So I've been a lifelong Bama fan going back to my earliest memories of the Bear's last couple of years, so I've seen the highs and the lows. Maybe I'm using my hindsight rose colored glasses, but I feel like if Saban was still our coach, even if we had ended the season like we did and the SECCG, I think he would have us ready to make a run of the table in the playoffs. Do you think Deboer can do that? Can he get this team to the point that the past is the past and we can turn it on again like we had it rolling mid season?

If you have seen 9201’s analysis of our passing game and run game vs ugaly, not sure this mess can be cleaned up. It’s on #15.

KDs teams seem to have high points followed by low points. And visa versa.

Its hard to even figure from one game to another.

JustNeed has a point. Rest recover.
But ok had the extra week off to do

Will be interesting to see where we are next Friday night.

Of the mindset that shit hasn't changed in 13 weeks of playing. Why should we believe it to be any different now? Will the O-line suddenly become more physical than the other team, will the running game suddenly turn into a hard to stop juggernaut, will the punter suddenly be able to kick the ball more than 35 yards? You know, stuff like this. I do give the defense a ton of credit. In the beginning, I thought Wommack sucked, but the defense actually improved, a lot, and kept us in the games that we lost.

I think the run game has potential, I really do. We have struggled, but I also put blame on the passing game, because if we can't complete a pass and hit open reads, teams can focus on stopping the run and we are facing a loaded box with no one fearing our offense. This all sits with Ty. If he can start putting the ball where it needs to be, it opens us up to run the ball. I firmly believe that. We beat Georgia and ran the ball when we needed. We did not blow up the rushing stat sheet, but 3-4 YPC is where I am happy sitting........as long as we have a passing game. And that was against a solid defense. It's there, but our quarterback has got to make the defense respect his ability to get the ball down field. Only so many times before they key in on Hill coming out of the backfield, and we can't even hit that right now.

They are going to keep rushing the pocket to affect Simpson & that will in turn, stop the run too. Until Simpson can burn their asses, that will NOT stop happening. The boiler plate model to stop Grubb & Simpson has been proven. NOBODY is going to change that unless 'Bama makes them change.

The two questions remain about fixing this. First, Can this Offense heal up enough to get back to being effective? I'm an extreme skeptic simply because the penalty for losing the SECCG is now having to play 5 more games against quality opponents. Even, healed up, its not sustainable. Second, Can Simpson & his receivers get their minds right to execute accurate passes AND catch those passes? I really have no idea, which tends to mean no . . . . . not for 5 more games.

I was talking more about the mental part... Saban had that "rat poison" speech to get the guys more focused on what matters, does Deboer have anything like that? I think in years past, the team could lose focus and Saban would return them back to being focused. What I want to know is can Deboer do the same? We played so much better earlier in the year and then we fell off the map... can he get us back on track in less than 2 weeks?

4 more games is all we need 🤪

Anybody know anything about Ty having a herniated disc?

Treatment

Conservative treatment includes changing activities to stay away from movement that causes pain and taking pain medicines. This treatment relieves symptoms in most people within a few days or weeks.

Medications

  • Nonprescription pain medicines. If your pain is mild to moderate, your health care professional might recommend nonprescription pain medicine. Options include acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) or naproxen sodium (Aleve).
  • Neuropathic drugs. These drugs affect nerve impulses to decrease pain. They include gabapentin (Horizant, Neurontin), pregabalin (Lyrica), duloxetine (Cymbalta), or venlafaxine (Effexor XR).
  • Opioids. Because of the side effects of opioids and the potential for addiction, many health care professionals hesitate to prescribe them for disk herniation. If other medicines don't relieve your pain, your health care professional might consider short-term use of opioids. Codeine or an oxycodone-acetaminophen combination (Percocet) may be used. Sedation, nausea, confusion and constipation are possible side effects of these medicines.
  • Cortisone injections. If your pain doesn't improve with oral medicines, your health care professional might recommend a corticosteroid injection. This medicine can be injected into the area around the spinal nerves. Spinal imaging can help guide the needle.
Few people with herniated disks require surgery. If conservative treatments fail to improve your symptoms after six weeks, surgery may be an option, especially if you continue to have:

  • Poorly controlled pain.
  • Numbness or weakness.
  • Trouble standing or walking.
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control.

I disagree with this basic premise. After the first game the team improved significantly until defenses adjusted and injuries occurred. Offense had one of its better games against OU except for stupid turnovers. The defense has definetly improved and sustained it. The offense has fallen off big time after the OU game.

With all that said I think we are looking for why they are playing poorly now... Never just one thing but coaches do not get off scott free...

…and he’s still better than either back up? I just want the best person playing…Ty was great when he was healthy, but he hasn’t been consistently good in weeks…

IMO, Ty's overall health is but one of many issues as to why the offense is struggling right now. Putting in a backup isn't likely to help, since it isn't going to fix the other issues while adding some new issues of its own.

So is all of that code for jealousy?

No. It's code for putting in a backup QB with very little game experience against a defense like OU's, auburn's, or UGA's is asking for disaster when the OL is beat up, there's no reliable run game to speak of, and your most experienced RB is out along with a top weapon at TE. Oh, and 3 of the 4 games against these teams are/were on the road.

TY for the explanation, much appreciated.

My question though is if we have a healthy arm delivering the ball, that woukd help open the game up for the quarterback and run game, correct? I also think there is more leash for a backup than a starter. Tua struggled against Georgia to start, but grew up quick. Not saying it's the answer, but I don't wanna use an injured quarterback as an excuse.
