🏈 Quarterback Blake Barnett expected to be named starting QB at USF

How's the surfing in Tampa?

`
My question would be how is that "huge for USF?" They just pulled in a guy that is going on his third team in three years, because he couldnt beat out the other QBs at either Bama or ASU. And the talent level at ASU is nowhere near the level of Bama.

I don't think USF's talent is that high, either. Maybe he'll get to play.

I will say I was pretty shocked when I looked at ASU's QBs, three 4 *'s, a 5 * (Barnett) and a 3* last year. Says a lot with how shit their offense has been last several years, really since Ossweiler.

ASU's QBs in 2017:
Brady White - QB - 4* (No. 2-ranked pro style QB) in 2015 class.
Manny Wilkins - QB - 4* (No. 13-ranked dual-threat QB) in 2014 class. *Ended up winning starting job*
Ryan Kelley - QB - 4* (No. 11-ranked dual-threat QB) in 2017 class.
Dillon Sterling-Cole - 3* (No. 17-ranked dual-threat QB) in 2016 class.
Kevin Brown - N/R (completely unranked by any recruiting service) in 2017 class.

Compared to...

USF's QBs heading intno 2018:
Brett Kean - QB - 3* (No. 62-ranked pro style QB) in 2015 class.
Chris Oladokun - QB - 3* (No. 57-ranked pro style QB) in 2016 class.
Jordan McCloud - QB - 3* (No. 30-ranked dual-threat QB) in 2018 class.
Octavious Battle - QB - 3* (N/R dual threat QB) in 2018 class.
Kyle Trina - QB - N/R (completely unranked by any recruiting service) in 2017 class.

So, I would say his shot at getting on the field is fairly high at USF. For some reason I thought the kid that USF had last year (who threw for like 3,000 yards) was still there.

"I made the mistake of going to a school that already established a starting quarterback, Barnett said. "That was my fault. It's really hard to stray away from that, and I completely understand it. If [2017 head coach] Todd Graham and coach Napier were on the same page, they knew they had a guy from the year before and want to build off that. I completely understand that. I wish I would have thoroughly thought that through beforehand. That's not to say I didn't enjoy my time in Tempe; I truly love Arizona State, I think it's a great school and I think the program is headed in the right direction."

I guess he can't make up his mind on where to play at? He come to Bama and is a backup, He go to Arizona and still the same a backup. What happen if it's the same at South Fla?

i fear that he'll never live up to his father's standards. he thought he should've been the starter at Alabama. and I'm sure he still felt that way out in Arizona. but there comes a time when you have to face facts and accept that something isn't the way you want it to be no matter how much you want it that way.

but i hope the guy does well. i hope he gets the starting job and has a great 2 years of college football and has some decent success in his life after college. but i always hate to see parents push their kids too much too fast and it winds up burning the kid out or turning them against the parent(s). i get that parents love their kids. but sometimes they think they know more than the head coach at a D1 school. when that's simply not the case.

George Whitfield said he was the best 18 year old he's ever coached. He gushed about him every chance he got. Talk about expectations put on football players now...

I have heard that said...."best I ever coached"....so many times about so many players....dont you remember........right!....nobody remembers who they were
..and then there are the ones ..to slow...to small...etc.... super bowl winners...lol

We've had some pretty pedestrian QBs at times. They played a lot of football for us, mainly because we didn't have anyone to take their place. And so it goes about being the right guy in the right place, timing is everything. Maybe Barnett gets that advantage at USF. If they run an offense he is best suited for and they don't simply have better options he might get something done. I would think that is why he specifically chose USF. The same for Joe Burrow at LSU. I'm sure it didn't take long for him to see that he wasn't competing with the likes of where he just came from. Not if he watched their spring game. Kids just have to keep adjusting and being more realistic the second and third time around.
