Nick Saban just said the quarterback race is down to two guys, Cooper Bateman and Blake Barnett.

Shocking to say the least, especially with all of the hoopla about Hurts. Saban's comparison of Barnett to Davey tells me this is BB8's time to man up. I think (HOPE!) he will.

This is what cracks me up about all these posters who were getting so upset about Hurts and saying he is the best QB Bama has had in years and all that other stuff when they have never seen him play against the ones and not one time this fall against anyone. They had convinced themselves he was the next Vince Young and would argue with anyone that doubted it.. all based on practice reports from people with "opinions" and that were watching him play against the 3's.

I have heard from a few guys that were there that he looked awesome and was one of the best athletes on the field.. that doesn't mean he is going to be the next Hiesman. I remember LaMichael Fanning.. he looked like a super hero in uniform... tall, strong, fast.. looked like he was carved out of granite but never found his way on the field much. When he did he got a few personal fouls penalties and eventually washed out completely. My point is, there are several guys that look like amazing athletes out there but there is more to being a starter than just that. There is a playbook you have to know, there are responsibilities you are held accountable for, there are people that you have convince that you are prepared mentally, physically and emotionally. From all accounts, Hurts is a very impressive 18 year old kid but he is an 18 year old kid.

My dad played college football and one of his favorite sayings was" The great thing about Freshman is... next year they will be Sophomores".

SMOKE SCREEN! I think he is trying to throw USC a curveball. I cant believe this. Saban never gives this type of information out. Last year it was literally down till the first play to see who would trot out onto the field. Why do this now??

Does this mean Phil Savage is officially out of the loop as an insider? No one can say that we haven't all had our say and then some on the QB once again. Mostly, it reminds me that USC is a serious contender and Saban is calibrating personnel to a specific game plan that gives us the best chance of success.

Saban isn't telling the whole story. It's still a mental game with USC. Even if Hurts is #3, I still expect him to play. Not surprised if Bateman starts.
If it's truly down to Barnett and Bateman, I doubt Hurt see the field. Hurts won't play unless he has a chance to take the starting job. He will Redshirt otherwise... IMHO.

As for all the hype on Hurt earlier... it was the same last year with Barnett. Those so called insiders were saying he was pushing for the #1 and would have significant playing time last year. However, he never saw the field.

Those same insiders said Bo would have a significant role too when he returned to the field. Which never really panned out. I guess sooner or later they may find a nut in the forest, but so far the track record isn't very good.

So, has anybody actually HEARD Saban's comments on the QBs? I myself had only read tweets and posted them here. There were some key words that were left out of those quote tweets.

I just heard it myself, and Saban used "probably", "as of right now" , and "maybe (gives us the best chance to win this week" quite a bit.

1) The announcement today was unprecedented as far as Saban pressers go.

2) Could he be leaving the option for another QB to be in the mix? Sure sounds like it, IMO.
