I wish they would make the ejection for targeting....just for the half. The rule is still so subjective, that they need to be a little more lenient with it. It is crazy what one group of officials will call targeting, and what one group will allow. This is with replay too.

Another thing they should do is allow the players that are hustling off the field, in between plays...to be a "no call" if they have made it to the numbers. They are not affecting the play and this will help with unnecessary flags and will speed up the game. It will also swing the advantage back to the defense a little bit. All the rules advantages have been on the offensive side of the ball, it's time to swing the pendulum back the other direction.

Yeah, I think that pre-game fight that happened outside the officials' jurisdiction...I...I cannot remember the game (Florida team? Texas team?) sometime in November probably triggered this new rule.

I believe this is referring to the Kentucky bowl game where Bowden punched a Virginia Tech player before the game, but it was so far before he was not penalized because the refs weren't on the field yet. He played, no penalty, and Kentucky won the game simply because of him.

Yeah, I think that's the game I was trying to remember. Were the officials within their jurisdiction...probably a completely different game.

I thought the targeting calls were much better this year. I don't think I would mess with that rule.

I agree with your second point. That is probably the worst called penalty in football because it has absolutely no effect on the play being run.

Agree with player getting to numbers coming off field that isnt in anyway involved in play should not be penalized ..
The target call stuff was much better this year
All in all. Things were better this year I thought

No more than 2 players may wear same jersey number. I think some school will have trouble doing this.

Players ejected for targeting may remain on sideline. So he can stay , just can't play. Now to me this one could have been better redone. I know sometime it the guy on offense that cause the targeting?

The number 0 may be worn. So who would want to be a zero!

Not sure it will speed up the game at all. I feel like TV will still keep us at commercial for 3-5 minutes. If they want to speed up the games they need to start limiting the commercial space more.

Never ever happen. May go the other way.
But I agree. Its really not terrible at game but in front of tv. It is forever

Their article talks about the pre-game confrontations, and it jumps into fake injuries as well. A little bit more on targeting but it's basically "no change."
