📝 Prince Tega Wonogho news

BONE: Will Alabama offer?
I broke the news on Twitter a few minutes ago regarding Prince Tega Wanogho, four-star defensive end from Edgewood Academy in Elmore, Ala., reclassifying from the 2016 to the 2015 class.

The 6-foot-8, 245-pound athlete moved to Alabama from Nigeria in August. He never played football before he arrived in the state. The coaching staff at Edgewood have worked really hard trying to help develop him as a college prospect. He has received more than 20 offers in the last month from schools which include Auburn, Clemson, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

Alabama is well aware of Wanogho. The Alabama coaching staff wanted to offer him in person, likely at Junior Day. I expect there is some discussion with the coaching staff right now regarding a spot in this class. The numbers are tight, but he is definitely one who would have received an offer from Nick Saban.

Most of these depend on if these schools have room in the 2015 class. Everyone expected him in 2016. UGA and North Carolina made contact today to let him know an offer is on the table.

So stay tuned....

Bama hasn't extended an offer for an official visit.

His coach told me this morning the schools Tega is considering for official visits- Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Oregon, Tennessee and South Carolina.

In other news, Tega has decided to change his name to "The Artist". The announcement comes on the heels of the shocker that the blue chip recruit will forego his senior year in high school and toss his name into the ring of high stakes college football recruiting. Unsubstantiated rumors abound that the athlete has already been offered a "Little Red Corvette".

"Nigeria's loss is our gain," said one unnamed, high profile coach. "We're having a talent day to search for actors who'll play him in the inevitable movie, 'Coming to America, Blindsided', an MGM production."

BONE: Latest on Prince Tega Wanogho
I spoke with Edgewood Academy head coach Bobby Carr a few minutes ago. He informed me earlier today Kirby Smart is visiting Prince Tega Wanogho, four-star defensive end, on Thursday.

Kerry Stevenson from Alabama visited him last week. Kirby Smart has been in contact about a possible official visit as early as this weekend. An offer is not on the table just yet.

Tega visited LSU this past weekend. He will visit Auburn on January 30. He is deciding between a trip to Tennessee or South Carolina this weekend. Those plans are not finalIzed and things can change if Smart presses to get him on campus this weekend. Keep in mind Tega has never visited Alabama.

Coach Carr said Tega's visit to LSU went really well, but he doesn't have anything to compare. That will change when he takes other visits.

An interesting note- Tega has been in touch with Alabama OL target Chid Valentine-Okeke. Coach Carr said he believes they are from the same area in Nigeria. The two have been talking about playing together in college. Chidi told him his top schools are Alabama, Auburn and LSU. Auburn and LSU have offered Tega. Is Alabama next ?

Coach Carr did confirm Tega's decision will go beyond signing day in order for him to take all of his visits and learn more about each school.

Hate it for him! Definite redshirt season coming. I wonder if this could cause another possible reclassification back to 2016. He is going to be laid up in a hospital bed unable to take official visits. Another possible year to gain more knowledge about the game and get the opportunity to go through the full recruiting process. Just thinking out loud.

Is there not an eligibility limit on foreign transfer students? Something is rattling around the back of my mind here...seems like there's a rule in place restricting the number of years guys like Prince can play.

@TerryP, I have no idea as to any restrictions on foreign exchange kids or transfers. I have been out of the loop for awhile, but we never had the luxury of having a kid move in with this type of situation. I would imagine he would fall under the age guidelines set forth by the AHSAA much like Calvin Ridley and the FHSAA.

I was surfing over TI this morning when I made the turn and noticed a few people make mention of it—it seems he's only got one year of eligibility which he used this season. One person linked the AISA site but I didn't click through.

BONE: Update on Prince Tega injury
Many have heard the news regarding Prince Tega Wanogho Jr., four-star defensive end from Edgewood Academy in Ala.
He suffered distal third fib/tib fracture in his left leg. It is not intra-articular. He will have surgery around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning at Baptist South in Montgomery.

This was a very tough situation for Wanagho who was recently reclassified to the 2015 class. He is No.130 in the final release of the Rivals250.

Several schools contacted the Edgewood Academy coaching staff on Tuesday night when learning about the news of the injury. All of his offers remain on the table which includes Auburn, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee and more. All schools know he will need a year to redshirt regardless, but his ceiling is through the roof.

I haven't heard anything regarding Alabama yet. I assume Kirby Smart is still visiting Tega on Thursday. I will check with his coach on Wednesday. Alabama has not extended an offer at this point.

@TerryP I was on a track site yesterday, and their was a discussion of foreign exchange students which is really common in collegiate track. Lots of students come here for scholarships and have completed grade 13, or freshman year in college. Those students get a year older and stronger before competing with American students. I do think there is an age restriction in college, because BYU had some runners who had been on mission and those runners were requesting some leeway in asking for added eligibility that was about to be lost because of the time out of country on their mission. Don't know how that would affect Prince.

13. Foreign Exchange Students: Foreign Exchange students will have one (1)
year of eligibility in ASIA interscholastic athletics providing: (a) they are
assigned by an official Foreign Exchange Student Agency; and (b) they
meet all ASIA eligibility specifications. Note: The bona-fide move rule
must be complied with if further eligibility is to be considered.

BONE: Kirby Smart visits...
Prince Tega Wanogho, four-star defensive end from Edgewood Academy in Ala., today. Alabama is trying to get Tega in for an official visit.

I spoke with Edgewood Head Coach Bobby Carr about the visit between Tega and Smart. Below are the highlights.

-Smart and Tega spoke for about 20 minutes while watching a basketball game.

-Alabama is glad he is waiting until after signing to make a decision. It gives them some time to figure out scholarship numbers.

-Alabama is very high on Tega. They believe he is an elite player, and they will have a spot if he wants to go to Alabama.

-Smart wants Tega to take an official visit next weekend or on February 14 whichever is more convenient for him.

-Tega wants to go somewhere they win a lot of games, and wants a chance to play in the NFL. When he was asked about Nick Saban, his response, "He is very business-like."

-Tega is taking an official visit to Auburn this weekend. We'll know next week future visit plans.
