šŸˆ Post-spring SP+ rankings has the Tide at #2, following OSU.

This will give some people the ā€œfeel goodsā€ but it means nothing. Many teams, including Alabama, haven’t settled on their starting lineup.
The formula that Connelly uses for this ranking is based on the roster, not a specific starting lineup. Three things: returning production, recent recruiting, and recent history (last four years as a measure of a programs condition.

His metrics are one thing that make this interesting to me. OSU, Bama ... both with guys who have very little experience at QB.

Pardon the idiocy, but what is SP+?
It a ratings/ranking system for college football. Bill Connelly has been publishing his for years (around the time Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa.) I think he started publishing in '08 after using the year previous to refine his system.

Side story: It used to be called the S&P+ but the S&P had a problem with the use.

His rankings during the season (behind paywall at ESPN.com) are based on efficiency.

@sean IF we took these rankings here's what he's saying.

Alabama, when playing the average NCAA D1 teams, is roughly 28 points better.
FSU, in the same situation, is just over seven. He uses different metrics in the fall.
