I think the larger playoff field will eliminate the pretenders who sneak in. Cincinnati from a few years ago is an easy first round kick. If an ACC team backs in, they'll just get bludgeoned in the first round.
I think you're right, but I think it'll also allow the better team to wear down, potentially lose depth, and get snuck up on if they aren't careful a game or two into the Playoffs. Especially an SEC team that ends with a rivalry game, potentially plays for the SEC Championship, and then has to get up for a Playoff game. No way Georgia loses to Notre Dame if they don't lose Beck against Texas in the SEC Championship game.
