🏈 Police Blotter question

In response to UGA RB Crowell's arrest, and in the aftermath of USC HC Spurrier making comments about being able to count on the Bulldogs to start the season with several suspensions, a Co-Worker and Georgia fan countered that everyone (every team) has these type problems and that there was nothing really that a coach/program/school could do to not having Crowell-like situations from happening.

I don't recall Alabama suffers from this same problem anywhere near to the degree that the Bulldogs have. I wanted to say at that time that it was the case, but I could not back it up with facts.

What does our Police Blotter roll call look like in the Saban era? Does anyone know where such matters are tracked/recorded/available?

In the entire Saban era? That would be something you'd have to go year by year and just count.

Across the NCAA, the one I see updated consistently is the Fulmer Cup. It's updated about once a month or so.

If you google Fulmer Cup 2011, 2010, and so on it'll give you an idea how each year has gone.

Now, as to your conversation...

In a manner of speaking, they are right. It does happen every year. But in another, and more important, manner it doesn't happen every single year on the same team.

Off the top of my head... Rolando McClain got arrested for beating up that frat boy, Jimmy Johns got arrested for the coke deal (obviously the worst), Rashad Johnson got arrested after he got jumped in a club (and it eventually got dropped), and Mark Barron was arrested for pretty much refusing to tell on his cousin (also eventually dropped). Dre got arrested AFTER he left Bama last year for weed, tho it was dropped too because Chris Rogers admitted it was his. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

Coach Saban arrives in the spring of 2007.
  • Simeon Castile is arrested for Disorderly Conduct in August of 2007. (Can't find how that ended after Simeon's Lawyer says that they will push for a Jury trial after Simeon was found guilty by a judge and fined $450 total.)
  • Jeremy Elder, the first CNS signee to be arrested, is arrested for robbery in Feb of 2008. Elder ends up at Troy eventually.
  • Jimmy Johns is arrested June of 2008. Johns, after not being able to find a position on either side of the ball also plays for a different "league".

Isn't this about the time that NCS put in the Peer Mentoring/Accountability program?
  • Rolando, Mark, and Rashad are the only names that we can come up with for the last 4 years?

Cecil Hurt replied to me once, after I asked why was everything so quiet that particular summer, "Believe me, the coaching staff is very happy that it's quiet." He continued, "this is the time of the year you don't want any publicity because it's almost always bad."

As usual, Cecil was right.

This time of year ESPN.com's college football page becomes a parade of bad news. Teams see hope dasked on a weekly basis. As close as last season was we can not rule out that Bama keeping its nose clean did not in somewhat make the difference somewhere along the season -- avoiding a suspension, remaining academically qualified, etc.

With the routine nature of college coaching staff visiting other staffs to pick up new tricks, I am surprised that whatever CNS is doing at Bama has not been the purpose of some visits from other staffs. New technique do little good for players in street clothes.
