Please tell me what I am missing about punting the football. Obviously there is leg strength and consistency of striking the ball along with placement but is there something else I'm missing??

Granted it was just goofing off but I can remember in high school some of my friends that played soccer could punt the hell out of a football.

Flexibility and follow thru has just as much to do with it. I have a lot of leg strength...but it's the kind of strenght used for doing squats. I have good strength and accuracy kicking but without the flexibility to follow thru properly i can't kick it 50 yards.

Flexibilty in the hips is a big factor, strength not so much. Long legs and flexible hips usually make a pretty effective punter, as the velocity of the foot when it makes contact is a hige factor in distance. It is the reason you can hit a 3 iron further than you can hit a wedge.
