I'm getting concerned after reading Bama Football Fix about The players leaving Bama.....here's the list.
Jarrell Harris-junior
Tana Patrick-freshman
Michael Bowman-sophomore
Darrington Sentimore-freshman
Kenny Bell-freshman
Chris Bonds-Freshman
M.Maze-Junior

This is very concerning so would someone in the know tell me why so many of our top recruits are leaving?! What are your thoughts on subject?

Roll Tide Roll!

I just don't see Harris or Bowman leaving. Unless they go to an FCS or smaller school, they would have to sit out a year. Never would get the exposure needed in that short amount of time in order to make the jump.

We see it every year and hear about it every year as far as guys leaving. (making room for blue-chippers coming in) How many guys leave each year? Typically it is not many. A couple of guys leave every year, but it is never as bad as the internet boards make out.

I wouldnt expect any of the names on that list to leave. Maze isnt that high of a draft pick to leave early. He would be better staying for his senior year to prove more. He had flashes over the past year but not enough to warrant bailing early.

Of those you listed, i could see only Patrick looking to go somewhere else. The other guys with the exception of harris and Maze will be looked upon to be heavy contributors next season.

I won't speculate on the players who I think might leave, but consider this.

8 seniors
19 commitments with at least 4 more in the wings.

Something will have to give to bring in all the players, and we don't have 17 players leaving for the NFL.

agree have to make room somewhere....my concern is that this could hurt recruiting in the long run. it could scare some good players away because they might think they will be forced to transfer when the next batch of recruits come in. the flip side of that is if they are being asked to transfer because we need the slot for someone else that means that they are not cutting it....and if they dont want to come here because of that potential then they may not have the confidence or competitive drive to succeed here so we probably dont want them anyway.

Well, first off, I don't think all the players listed are in fact leaving, and second, exactly, coming to Alabama means you are the best of the best, and you're gonna have to work your butt off to be in the starting 22 (+/- 7 or so depending on the formation) so, with that said, every player that comes to Alabama knows that to play they are gonna have to work and they're gonna have to be the best, and they wouldnt come if they didnt think they were that or they didnt have the drive to be a winner. But my view is this, no matter what our thoughts are on the best players and who should be starting, who will play next year, and who should never play another down in their life, Saban knows who the best players are and you can almost be certain that at any one time, the 11 guys on the field wearing Crimson are the best 11 that can be put together on one team in the country-- IMHO.

^^^This here^^^

Some are not going to return. Some for different reasons than others. In the end, we will have 85 on scholarship next year, and from top to bottom it will be a very talented team. Again.

i heard it straight from a players mouth.... bowman will play a lot next year, marquis says he is leaving no matter what. he doesn't like going to class. i can't say that i blame him. i was very happy when i graduated. i never want to go back to class again.

When we talk about who is leaving, why does it have to be names that make you groan and hope that it is not the case?

Why can't it be some kid who's name we have not heard of since signing day of his senior year in high school?

As a program are we to the point to where they all are on the verge of being a major contributor?

the question I have, does he count towards our numbers at this point.

Great questions. My impression would be no. Considering that he has not attended any classes as yet, he can not be considered a STUDENT-athlete, which is a prerequisit for taking a scholarship.

The truth will also likley be impacted by IF he has signed the National Letter of Intent...formalizing a contract if you will, instead of a non-binding "agreement in principle" which commitments seem to be.

Douglas will count towards the 85 limit and probably towards the 2011 signing limit of 28 once he enrolls in school. (I don't think we have "back counter " room in the 2010 class.) I'm sure he has signed an LOI, not sure if we can revoke it before he enrolls.

I would hope that this issue would be handled as per the "process" once he gets on campus. We shouldn't pre-judge, that is, we shouldn't apply some metric based on his previous UT behavior. By all accounts he has behaved well while at JUCO. The kid deserves a second chance WITHIN OUR PROGRAM. Plus he hasn't even arrived yet.

I would expect him to still enroll early and to go through Saban/UA indoctrination including what is expeced of him now that he is officially UA. I'm sure he will get a short leash b/c of this, but he shouldn't be condemned outright.
