If it weren't for their basketball program, I think Vanderbilt would have gotten out of the SEC years ago.

I've heard that each of the major conferences realizes the benefits of having at least one private school in their membership. It apparently reduces the amount of financial information they release.

Geography wise both Missouri and Pitt are good fits (see link). Would probably have North-South Divisions with Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, and Wisconsin in the North. And with Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Missouri or Pittsburgh, Penn State, and Purdue in the South.
