🏈 Pitt to Big Ten

What happened to the "Missou to the Big Ten, with TCU backfilling into the BIG 12" angle?

Also, who then would backfill for Pittsburgh?

Everyone is falling all over themselves to deny it, so that may give it some credence. Big 10 originally said they would spend 12 to 18 months, so if they are doing something in two months it must be because Notre Dame told them to take a flying leap. Again.

Not saying it will happen, but it does seem a more natural fit than Mizzou to the Big 10.

I never quite thought that sounded right for some reason.

The only thing that would make Missouri a good fit for the Big 10 is the team's natural rivalry with Illinois. I grew up on the Illinois/Missouri border and when it comes to hoops, neither team has a bigger game all season.

I guess as a Pittsburgher, who's father played for Pitt, I can chime in on this one. Nothing has been announced, actually the news stories up here are saying that it was an erroneous story that actually started on Twitter and Facebook. The Big-10(11) hasn't started the review of the schools they're considering yet. Although I think they are in talks right now, too much smoke.

Ultimately I think it makes sense to have Pitt in the Big-10, they have a natural rival in PSU, which has been demanding 2 for 1's with Pitt for them to play again. It makes sense for regional placement, television market and Pitt fits academically with the Big-10 standards.

I think the Big-10 is sick of Notre Dame jerking them around and Pitt works on several levels, but we'll see what happens, that decisions is a good ways off. As for who might backfill, the noise that I've heard up here is: Central Florida, East Carolina or possibly Marshall. Additionally, I've heard that if Pitt does leave, the Big East might make some additional football only offers to get up to 10 or 12 teams in the conference. i.e. offering up ECU, CF and Marshall together, bringing the conference to 10 teams. Obviously since in basketball they have so many teams, there is no room for those additional Universities.

Here's what I would like to see. Pitt and Missouri to the Big Ten. Of course, a new conference name would have to be in order, seeing as how it's 12 teams at that point. Then, Marshall slides in to take Pitt's place in the Big East, and either TCU or SMU slide in to take Missouri's place in the Big 12. Then, Vanderbilt leaves the SEC and heads to Conference USA to take Marshall's place. The, the SEC could get Florida State, and they could be replaced in the ACC by South Florida or Rutgers. None of that will ever happen, of course, but it would be good to be rid of Vanderbilt from the SEC. Nothing against the commodores, but I have always wondered just what in the world they are doing in the SEC.

Only thing is if both Pitt and Missouri go to the Big 10 then it would give them 13 teams since the Big 10 has 11 teams in it now.

Okay,
Off toppic but, is anyone else having problems with this thread appearing to narrow with like only one or 2 words per line?

I think it's really likely that we'll see another big conference realignment soon, especially if the Big-10 expands. As I posted before Pitt has the make-up of a Big10 school, with an academic record and quality that matches up with the Big10 standards. Make no bones about it, fitting in academically is a big deal to the Big-10. If Vandy wasn't so far away from the core locations of the Big10 schools, they might make a lot of sense for the conference, especially since the traditional powers wouldn't be challenged by their presence.

There has also been a lot of rumors going around that the Mountain West may offer an invite to Boise State this year. Again a natural fit, but I've also heard that the PAC-10 might make a grab at two schools, possibly Utah and BYU. Just so many rumors right now it's hard to believe that nothing is happening.

It'll be interesting to see how all of this plays out. If by chance a Big-12 team does leave, maybe Colorado to the PAC-10 or MIssou to the BIg-10 and, If say, Arkansas heads to Big-12 country, I wouldn't mind seeing the SEC make a grab for WVU. It might be interesting to see what they could do in the SEC.

Just minimize the ads on the right hand side of the page and things will go back to normal. Just roll over the ads and a blue arrow will show up in the top right corner. Click them and everything should slide back into place. Or at least it worked for me.

Yeah, it put it back to normal for me too. Those adds are really messing things up on the site.

LBS' plan
Pittsburgh to BIG TEN, Marshall to the BIG EAST, South Alabama to CONFERENCE USA (as they work up to eligability)

or

Missouri to BIG TEN, TCU to BIG 12
