It's been a surprisingly good run for Auburn these last 10 years.
-------------------------------------------------

If you have been an Auburn football fan for the past 10 years, you have seen:

-- Cam Newton flash onto the scene and win the Heisman Trophy.

-- The greatest comeback in the history of Auburn football when the Tigers rallied from a 24-0 deficit to beat Alabama 28-27 in 2010.

-- Newton and dominating defensive tackle Nick Fairley lead the way to a 14-0 season and the 2010 national championship.

-- Perhaps the most dramatic moment in all the history of Auburn football, Chris Davis’ 109-yard sprint with a missed field goal to beat Alabama.

-- Gus Malzahn take his first Auburn team to an SEC championship and the BCS Championship Game.

-- Tre Mason have the most prolific season of any running back in Auburn history, even more prolific than Bo Jackson.

-- Auburn soundly defeat Georgia when it was ranked No. 1 and turn around and beat Alabama soundly two weeks later when it was ranked No. 1.

-- Four trips to New Year’s Six bowl games or championship games. That is as many as in the previous 21 seasons.

-- Three trips to the SEC Championship Game with two wins in which Auburn shattered the scoring record for the game.

Who in the SEC can match that body of work over the last decade (2008-2017)? Only Alabama. LSU is close. That Auburn has done it in the same state with Alabama makes it all the more impressive.

Like eating one potato chip, those successes only whet the fans’ appetites for more. To be sure, there could have been more. Some dreadful times - see 2008 and 2012- have been mixed with the good times and the great times. But there could have been less, too.

In the modern world of hot takes and opinions pulled from thin air, it’s hard to do enough. In the same state, conference and division with Alabama, it’s even harder. But the fact is that the past decade, in a uniquely challenging environment, Auburn football has thrived.

And 2018 promises an opportunity to thrive once again.

let's see....the last 10 years

Heisman trophy winner Mark Ingram
Heisman trophy winner Derrick Henry
SEC Champions: 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016
National Champions: 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017
10+ wins in a season: 2008, 2009, 2010 (the only season with only 10 wins), 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017

I think they are four games over .500 in conference play over the last decade. Bama, on the other hand, has lost nine games...so, I'm thinking that's 62 games over .500 for the Tide?

It's a stretch where they've had some good years. It's also a stretch we've seen some bad years. And, coaching changes. You're right, it's "The Deal." It's also Auburn, historically.

Since you did not ask for it, here's my view. Bama did this following the '08 season. Auburn has done the same in this past season. OK. It's no different, at face value.

I can only try to empathize, so here goes. Bama beats a #1 ranked Tennessee and #1Auburn in the same season. Bama loses to an unranked LSU and also to (insert team choice --- #4 national ranking like Clemson) early on. They make the SECCG but lose.

Do I, as a fan, booster, alum, (insert your titles here,) like this idea? No.

That '08 team was undefeated in divisional play. Auburn had a loss. So, thinking about this I'm...

(insert favorite .gif of 'uh, no.')
