Crazy thing is that Peyton wanted to play another year... No one wanted him.
He was a pro's pro who changed the game of football at the line of scrimmage. Truly changed the way offense was ran to a certain extent.
To finish his career, John Elway did more for this guy than he could ever repay. When Elway saw his skills diminishing last year he went out and created an absolutely dominant defense. That defense was so good that they were able to overcome the shittiest QB play in the league for much of the year. Peyton gets to retire a champion despite playing absolutely terrible football all year.

How many guys from the starting lineup were not on the defensive side of the ball last year? I was under the impression all but a few of the starters were with Denver for the last few years. I don't follow the Broncos closely.

The 2 backup DE's Barrett and Ray were huge this season... Neither was there last year. Barrett was on practice squad and Ray was at Mizzu. I think they should let Ware go and play both those guys more... Barrett was actually a better player when Ware was out with injury.
They picked up a safety named Darian Stewart that was probably the unsung MVP. He had a tremendous year (actually from Huntsville, AL)
Chris Harris was injured at the end of last season. Same with Derrick Wolfe (who they were considering cutting due to constant health concerns). Getting both back and extending them was a really good move
Brought in Antonio Smith who did a really nice job eating up D Line snaps. Kind of like a Tomlinson at Alabama
Elway made what ended up being some really smart decisions. He let Pot Roast go to Jacksonville instead of paying him and Malik Jackson went from backup to Pro Bowler. Not giving up on Wolfe was huge. Played Sylvester Williams a lot more and he stepped up. But those 2 backup pass rushers were special... Much like Alabama's D Line and how Tim Williams & Ryan Anderson would come in and change the game.
I actually liked this Manning as a pro, even though I hated him as a collegian. Nice to see one of the all time greats stepdown as a winner, even if that championship really belonged to his defense.
His retirement speech was great. I hate him from the Tennessee aspect, but respect him greatly for the player he was throughout his career, and more importantly the man he was.
