The ugly: USC giving up after things starting to turn, and the personal foul on the USC player. Absolutely pathetic.

While playing LSU back in '14 we saw the momentum turn and it led to frustration. I know the guys last name was Alexander, but I can't recall his first name. If you recall, the whistle had blown and he had a late hit—some called it a cheap shot—that pretty well ended the Tigers day. At that point you could see them quit—literally and figuratively.

Last night, against Wisky, we see the same scenario with the same team. LSU, with a fight on their hands, loses their cool and the game not only slips but cascades away from them.

Now, we've got USC ...

As soon as ESPN replayed that kick to the nuts one thing should have been clear. USC had given up on playing football, and decided to see if they could make it a "street fight."

One of the announcers said, paraphrasing,;"I'd have a pen and paper and make note of the ones who are trying to compete ....." SC has a long way to go after what I saw last night.

He only get a half that he will not play. I think he should, and this include the LSU player should get two game to sit out. Make both to some type of training in sportsmanship.

The difference there is that at least the LSU player can claim "I didn't see him fall on the INT, I thought he was returning it." Its bullshit but he can at least MAKE that claim and it be plausible (even if its in the slightest bit). There is nothing the USC guy can claim "Oh, I saw a fly on his dick so I wanted to stomp it for him." Yeah, doesn't work.

USC has suspended Jabari Ruffin for the first half of its game against Utah State on Saturday for stomping on the groin of Alabama's Minkah Fitzpatrick, coach Clay Helton announced Sunday.

As part of his punishment, Ruffin will also write an apology letter.

"He understands his conduct is unbecoming of a Trojan and there will be zero tolerance moving forward," Helton said. "Jabari is a good kid who made a poor emotional decision. I am sorry as the head coach [and] he is also. I know that it will not happen again."

The stomp occurred late in the first half of Alabama's 52-6 win against USC on Saturday after a kickoff return. Ruffin was assessed a personal foul and ejected from the game.

It is unclear whether he will face additional punishment from the Pac-12.

"As with all personal flagrant fouls, the incident will be a part of the conference's normal review process of the weekend's games for possible additional sanctions," a conference spokesman wrote in an e-mail to ESPN.com.

Helton also said Osa Masina and Don Hill are expected to continue to practice and attend class and football-related meetings while under investigation for sexual assault. Hill initially made the trip to Texas for the game against Alabama, but was sent home Friday after his alleged involvement was made public.

"That's of this moment right now," Helton said Sunday evening.

Helton said he is following guidance from the university as it pertains to any discipline for either player.
USC suspends Ruffin half-game for crotch stomp

I thought you could see USC kind of giving up before the stomp on the nuts. As we've heard before "make their asses quit". That stomp was just the emphatic "we quit".

It seemed to me that grind was wearing USC out.

I believe Fitzpatrick should have a say in the punishment. If Tea bagging was part of the punishment that incident would have never ever happened.

That's gonna piss my Southern Cal buddy off, he wanted a 2-3 game suspension.

What did he expect, Matt?

ESPN's Bonagura has this wrong. The half game suspension has nothing to do with USC—that's a mandated NCAA rule on any player getting booted from the game.

I wonder if Helton is as ahead of this with the PAC commish as Saban was with Fanning after the Mizzou game.
