šŸˆ Paul Finebaum hears 'train wreck' predictions for live Iron Bowl show, phones ready this time

Memories of the last Iron Bowl are mixed for Paul Finebaum.

Of course it was the most memorable ending in rivalry ― perhaps college football ― history, but the broadcasting side was rough. The Monday after the game, ESPN opted to simulcast the first 90 minutes of his radio show live on ESPNU. Then the phones crashed and Finebaum spent more than an hour vamping.

"At least in broadcasting, it was the worst experience I've ever had," Finebaum toldAL.com on Tuesday.

In terms of the 2014 rematch, a "repeat of last year would be pretty cool," Finebaum said, but there's a different plan in place for the broadcasting side. Finebaum will watch the game in studio with four other analysts and react to the action. Among the crew will be former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy and ex-Auburn offensive lineman Cole Cubelic.

And, of course, there will be callers.

The exact ratio of callers to analysis is still being determined. Finebaum said they'll feel it out as they go to find the right mix.

I can't believe he wouldn't decline that in order to be at the game. If I had those kind of credentials, I'd be pulling strings to make sure I'm on location during these times, not having to watch a game and deal with beligerent fans the entire time with up and down emotions as the game is played.

Guess I just zone in, and don't pay attention to anything else. Now during other team's games I may browse for scores and see how my bets are doing.

Has Finebaum ever said who he prefers? I saw where he was a Tennessee graduate, but he makes his money in Alabama, so I was curious if anyone here knows?
Finebaum has always been one who finds out which way the parade is headed and rushes to get in front of it. You can safely say that he has no preferences, or even loyalties.
