How important are uniforms in recruiting?
North Carolina has a new set this year, and itās in one of our semifinal polls for best new look of the season. Larry Fedora joined SVP & Russillo on ESPN Radio on Monday and explained that the recruits are all over them.
āThatās huge,ā he said. Thatās all they want to talk about. Theyāre all asking about it. āWeāve heard about the uniform changes. We understand you introduced the tar into the uniforms.ā Theyāre excited about adding black to the Carolina blue.ā
Now, a player likely isnāt going to choose a school because of uniforms, but something like that can draw the initial attention more than youād get otherwise. It can create a little more excitement and help a coach sell everything else.
Something that Fedora isnāt excited about is the new targeting rule. It has drawn criticism from plenty of coaches because of all the gray areas.
Dave Doeren said he doesnāt know how to coach for it. Mike Leach said people need to stop apologizing for football.
Fedora may have had the harshest comment.
āYou think fans are going to lose their minds? Youāve got coaches who might lose their jobs because of a play like that,ā he said. āI think itās one of the scariest things I can even remember going into a season, this targeting rule.
āIām really worried about it. ā¦I know they say, āHey, weāre going to replay it and get the right call,' but still, once itās been called, itās something thatās very scary.ā
Lose their jobs? Hrrmm...
Screw up some games this season? To that, I have no argument. And those losses may be a driving factor towards a coach losing a job.
